NOTES ABOUT LAS VEGAS:

  • The Orleans 150 is the third race on the NWWS schedule and the only visit this season by the series to Las Vegas Motor Speedway
  • Six different drivers have visited victory lane in the seven NWWS events at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Ken Schrader has two victories - while Gary Smith, Kevin Harvick, Kevin Richards, Andy Houston and Jerry Nadeau each have one win on the 1.5-mile superspeedway.
  • A different driver has won the Bud Pole Award in each of the seven NASCAR Winston West Series races at LVMS. They include Schrader, 1996; Sammy Potashnick, 1997; Kenny Wallace, 1997; Harvick, 1998; Mike Chase, 1998; Nadeau, 1999; and Gaughan, 1999.
  • Butch Gilliland is the only driver to compete in all seven NWWS races at LVMS.
  • The seven lead changes among five drivers in last year's race set a new mark for the event.
  • Schrader is among the entries for this race. It will mark the eighth consecutive year the NASCAR Winston Cup Series driver has competed in at least one NWWS event. Although Schrader has accumulated six victories in 13 races with the series, he was 0 for 2 in 1999,
  • A Chevrolet has been in victory lane for six of the seven NWWS races at Las Vegas-

    The The inaugural NASCAR event at Las Vegas Motor Speedway was a NASCAR Winston West Series race - held Nov. 2, 1996.

    The NWWS event is part of a big day of entertainment at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. An Indy Racing Northern Light Series race is slated for 12:30 p.m., followed by a concert featuring the awardwinning group Smash Mouth.

    NOTES OF INTEREST:
    Gaughan was the only driver to finish in the top five at both Phoenix and Bakersfield. His win at Bakersfield, coupled with his fourth at Phoenix gives him an average finish of 2.5, the best in the series.

    Despite being sidelined with mechanical trouble for part of the Bakersfield event, Richards has led the most laps of competition this season. He has had the Monaco Enterprises Chevrolet in front for 142 laps.

    Gaughan and Potashnick are the only drivers to complete all 300 laps of competition in the two NWWS races.

    Drivers celebrating birthdays during the month of April include Mike Chase, who turns 48 on the 17'"; and Bob Howard, who turns 55 on the 22nd.

    STATS OF THE WEEK:
    Three of the seven NASCAR Winston West Series races at Las Vegas Motor Speedway were won from the Bud Pole position. Two winners started outside of the top 10, meanwhile.
