PORTENGA LOOKING TO KEEP MOMENTUM GOINGNASCAR WINSTON WEST SERIES
Source: Performance Motorsports Media
"Momentum is everything in this game" said Steve. " My car owners have stressed to me and the crew that getting to the top is a major battle, but the even bigger battle is staying there." Along with Food4Less, comes King Taco Restaurants, Rudolph Foods, Mission Foods, Superior Gear, Signco, Stoughton Printing and Jan's Towing as sponsors of the # 77 Ford Taurus. Celebrating wins, although not new to Performance Motorsports continued throughout the month of May culminating with a victory party held at Performance Motorsports Team Headquarters in Glendora, Calif. The mood was festive and the food was fantastic. King Taco Restaurants provided the tasty cuisine. The night was a reunion of sorts as some former drivers from Performance Motorsports showed up to take part in the festivities. Greg Pursley, Joe Bean and Steve Portenga traded jabs as they argued over who was the best driver. King Taco Restaurants and Performance Motorsports used the occasion to announce that they have entered a sponsorship agreement with Dave Hays and the A-1 Spring and Supply # 13 Monte Carlo driven by Greg Pursley to compete at Irwindale Speedway. "Greg has enormous talent and is a great friend" said Performance Motorsport's Joe Nava. " We had a great run with him in our Winston West car last year and now this year it looks like he is the man to beat at Irwindale Speedway." Also on tap to run again for the team is Joe Bean. Joe will compete when the Winston West returns to Irwindale Speedway on July 26th. As if Steve and the team didn't have enough to do, they fielded two race cars for the Touring Car Racing Association last weekend at Laguna Seca Raceway. The 1995 Honda Accord driven by Jesus Vasquez and sponsored by King Taco Restaurants won it's qualifying race on Saturday and then won the main event on Sunday by one second over a M3 BMW in the 2.2 liter class. This was Jesus' second time out in this race car. Jesus' regular job is an kart engine builder and team mechanic for the King Taco Karting Team. Performance Motorsports hopes to have the kid in a Mechanix Wear Speedtruck in June.
The # 77 Food4Less, King Taco Race Car will be on display Friday May 30 in Madera at the Food4Less Supermarket located at 2360 West Cleveland Ave. Steve will be on hand to visit with race fans from 5 pm until 7 pm.
