Not too many people know that they actually race trains at Cajon Speedway. Well not exactly the kind of trains that roll down railroad tracks. The trains that they race at Cajon Speedway are in actuality three passenger cars which have been attached together. When the green flag drops, those machines take off and do their thing on a figure eight course. Yes, that means there can be meetings at the intersection. There are no signal lights and no bypass track. Just the skill of the driver and lady luck determine what happen when the trains try to criss-cross around each other at this unmarked intersection.

Saturday night will mark the second time this season that the crowd pleasing trains have joined the action at Cajon Speedway. Their 8-lap event will be run following a full evening of stock car racing at the Gillespie Field track. The stock card portion of the card will start at 6:45 PM. On tap on the NASCAR Weekly Racing Series show are the late model sportsman stocks, Grand American modifieds, street stocks, bomber stocks, and legends. This will be the first appearance of the year by the legends.

In last months train race, held in conjunction with the Coors Light 100 for sportsman on March 25, eight trains were started the race. But only half made it to the checkered flag. Joe Totten and Aaron Reed were the first to cross the finish line and picked up the $600 first prize money. Yes, that is no misprint. There are two engineers for these trains. One rides in the front car and the other rides in the caboose.

The trains run about once a month at Cajon. Future events are scheduled for May 20, June 17, July 4, July 15, August 12, September 9, and the season finale, appropriately called the Train World Championship, on October 7. In the late model sportsman portion of the show, Ron Overman will be trying to expand his point lead over three time champion Gary Tamborelli. Overman ran second in last week's feature after winning the previous week. He has 209 points to Tamborelli's 195. Tamborelli is seeking a record setting fourth consecutive championship. John Tyczki sits in third place with 190 points. Tyczki has been the division's fastest qualifier each of the last two outings.
