April 18, 2000 – BAKERSFIELD, CA -- Four of Bakersfield’s top NASCAR drivers will start their day this Saturday racing at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, and finish their night racing at Mesa Marin Raceway. Jason Small, Mike Duncan, Gary Collins and Jerry Cain will compete in the NASCAR Winston West Series "Orleans 150" in Las Vegas. At the conclusion of the Winston West race these four drivers will board a charter flight from Vegas to Bakersfield. Upon arriving in Bakersfield, they will have just enough time to grab their helmets and strap into their Late Model Stock Cars for the evenings 75 lap NASCAR Weekly Racing Series main event at Mesa Marin. "We had a great opening night at Mesa Marin, and are currently second in NASCAR points so we have allot at stake and need to be back," said Jason Small. "It will be a big day for us, we’ll start the Winston West race at 4:45pm, it should be over by 7, then we’ll have a couple hours to get to the airport, get on the plane, land in Bakersfield, and be a Mesa Marin by main event time. It should be a wild day." Small added. "We won’t get to qualify so we’ll have to start at the back of the field, but that will make it even more challenging for each of us and should make for some good racing." stated Duncan, who won opening night at Mesa Marin. "We have the best Late Model drivers anywhere in America, and these guys enjoy the challenge and are going to great lengths to get back and compete," said Larry Collins, Senior vice-president of Mesa Marin Raceway. "This could be one of the best races of the year, it’s not often you have four drivers of this caliber starting at the rear of the field. A win won’t come easy." Collins concluded. The racing schedule Saturday at Mesa Marin includes the NASCAR Late Models, Accel Modified Stocks, Exide ShorTrack Street Stocks, and the 911 Race For Youth. Gates will open at 5pm, racing will begin at 7pm. Prices are $8 for general admission with children 12 and under free. For more information phone 661-366-5711.
