IMPRESSIVE FIELD OF SUPER LATE MODELS HEADLINE SATURDAY’S LINE UP AT MESA MARIN

BAKERSFIELD, California -- To say that the schedule of events for this Saturday night at Mesa Marin is “jam-packed” would be a huge understatement.

“We try to put ten gallons of water in a five gallon hat, so to speak,” stated Mesa Marin V.P., Larry Collins referring to the racing line up.

“The more action the better, with little or no down time is our approach to our schedule every Saturday night.” Collins concluded.

This Saturday’s racing line up includes the NASCAR Super Late Models, the West Coast Pro Truck Series, Cal Spas SuperMoto USA, Auto Club 911 Race for Youth Series and the first race of the ChevronTexaco High School Racing Series. That’s five divisions of racing plus a special “Father’s Day” hot dog eating contest.

In NASCAR Super Late Model competition, Craig Raudman – the 2001 NASCAR Featherlite Southwest Series champion just added his name to the already impressive list of entries that includes point leader Dan Holtz, three-time series champ Kevin Vernon and 2000 champ Mike Duncan. James Bruncati and Jeremy Salamacha are tied for second behind Holtz in the point standings. Rounding out the top five in points are Ray Hooper, Jr., and Rick Grissom.

In the Cal Spas SuperMoto USA Series, watch for Vertemati factory rider Leonardo Bagnis of Argentina attempt to extend his winning streak at Mesa Marin to four in a row. Bagnis will be challenged by Bakersfield’s Rick Pearce and Fairfield’s Casey Yarrow, both on factory backed Hondas.

Saturday night will mark the first race of 2003 for the ChevronTexaco High School Racing Series. Students from throughout Central California will compete against one another in race cars they built during the school year.

Spectator gates open at 6pm, with racing starting at 7:30pm. For more information please call 366-5711.
