CORONA, California -- Fresh out of his Sophomore Year in High School, and his first ticket as a Licensed Driver in the State of California, 16 year old Andrew Lewis posted his second win of the season in the Mechanix Wear Speed Truck Challenge. The Santiago High School Honor Student, was the top qualifier for the event posting a time of 20.188 around Irwindale's 1/2 mile oval.
"It took about 15 Laps for the Truck to come to me," Lewis said, "but from that point on the 04 Western Reinforcing, Speedway Children's Charities, Chevy S10 would stick anywhere on the track that I needed to run it." A mid race caution due to oil on the track put Lewis in a postion to battle current series Points Leader Lee Hatch for the Lead, and battle they did, door to door for several laps. "I have the greatest respect for Lee as a Driver and Competitor in this series, we have been doing this side by side racing all season and we really trust each other," said Lewis. Hatch was quoted as saying, "I was not going to make it easy for him, he had the better truck in the end, and I love racing with this kid."
Lewis was also very adamant about praising his entire crew, consisting of 1st year Crew Chief Rubin Munoz, his long time racing buddy Josh Gilbert and friend Richard Thill. "Richard works his tail end off for us, and I cannot thank him enough for all the things he does."
The 04 Truck is out of the Rich's Motorsports Stable, and has been
competitive since it first rolled out last year, when Andrew was only 15.
The 2001 Legends Cars Semi Pro National Champion was limited to Las Vegas
racing last year dut to his age, but with 3 Poles and two wins so far this
season, Andrew dubbed, "Mr. Excitement" is showing the Southern California
Racing Community that he is the real deal.![]()
