PRICE, Utah -- Jared Elwell continued his winning streak in the Intermountain Mini Sprints 6th race of the year on Saturday night, June 14th at Desert Thunder Raceway in Price, Utah. It was Elwell's 3rd feature win of the season and extended his point lead to 39 points over race runner up Tim Savage.
Elwell's night wasn't easy though. In the heat race Elwell suffered from handling problems and finished 4th. In the trophy dash just before the field was called to the track, Elwell realized he was nearly empty on fuel. His brother Jason and Bob Brewer were putting fuel in the car at the staging area and barely completed the fueling in time. Elwell and Savage out on an exciting trophy dash with Jared winning a very close race.
During the Feature on the 7th lap, race leader Bob Brewer and Elwell approached the lapped car of Todd Hamilton and went 3 wide with Brewer clipping Hamilton's left front tire, getting air and nearly flipping. Brewer suffered from a dying battery and fell back to 5th. A spirited battle went on behind Elwell as his brother Jason and Tim Savage waged a duel for 2nd place that had the fans cheering as Savage tried every possible line to pass Jason, finally succeding on the 18th lap as Jason lost traction slightly on exiting turn 2. Jason Fleming and Bob Brewer rounded out the top 5.
The heat race was won by Tim Savage who passed Bob Brewer after Brewer's battery began to die with Brewer leading a sizable lead.
The Intermountain Mini Sprints next race is Saturday, July 5th at Desert Thunder Raceway in Price, Utah.
