ANTIOCH, California --Grabbing the lead from Terry Tarditi, David Goodwill went on to victory in the 25 lap All Pro Series Wingless Spec Sprint Main Event Saturday night at Antioch Speedway. It was Goodwill's first feature win of the season aboard his Lito Auto Body sponsored Stinger Chassis and paid $600. Tarditi had crossed the line in second, but he was disqualified in tech, handing second to Billy Fraser ahead of Scott Merrell.
Another good field of 24 Wingless Spec Sprints ran four six lap qualifying heat races, and wins went to point leader Darrell Hanestad, Jim Perry Jr., Joey Santos and Fraser. Fraser also won the four lap Trophy Dash. Brandi Ford led all 12 laps of the non stop B Main ahead of John Hendrickson and Doug Henry.
Goodwill started back in sixth in the Main Event as Fraser started seventh. Tarditi had the pole and raced into the early lead over Bob Newberry and Merrell. An inside pass on the front stretch of the fourth lap gained Goodwill third from Merrell. Contact between Fraser and Chris DeRuyter in their fifth place battle saw DeRuyter crash into a Turn 4 tractor tire, collecting Perry Jr. in the incident. DeRuyter and Perry Jr. were both eliminated as Tarditi led the restart. A low move in Turn 3 of the restart lap gained Goodwill second, and Merrell made an inside pass on the back stretch of the seventh lap to take third from Newberry. Jason McIntosh spun in Turn 2 for a lap eight caution flag. Tarditi led the pack to the green, but an inside move in Turn 2 gained Goodwill the lead. A low move in Turn 4 of the 18th lap gained Merrell second from Tarditi, and McIntosh spun in Turn 4 for the final caution flag on lap 18. Goodwill led Merrell, Tarditi, Fraser and Hanestad on the restart, but an inside move on the back stretch of the 21st lap regained Tarditi second from Merrell. Fraser made a low pass in Turn 2 of the 23rd lap to take third, but Goodwill sped home to a much needed victory. Tarditi crossed the line in second, but he was disqualified in tech for illegal shocks, moving Fraser into a second place finish ahead of Merrell, Hanestad and Newberry.
