The Grand American Modified division car count has been dwindling in the past few weeks at Stockton 99 Speedway. However, an 18 car field welcomed Galt driver, Jason Kerby back to the track where he first began racing in 1992. Kerby has been racing at Madera Speedway this year competing for the Nascar Sunbelt Regional Championship and currently holds third place in the Madera track championship race.
As Kerby took the track for qualifying, Sam Solari of Salida had just put up the fastest time of the night, Kerby proceeded to produce the fastest qualifying time of his career, a 13.881 lap! This gave Kerby fast time and put him in the trophy dash with drivers Sam Solari, Grovelands Paul Henry and Gregg Williams from Ceres. Kerby started on the pole and led the entire dash, winning the trophy for the night.
In a yellow/red flag marred main event Jason Kerby started in 5th place after driver Angelo Quierolo dropped out with mechanical problems before the race began. Kerby quickly moved into 4th, 3rd and then 2nd while following Jason Philpot around then leader Gregg Williams. After a caution on lap 18 Jason took the lead for good after passing Philpot on the outside. Kerby padded his lead in the next few laps and took the win under caution when Buzz DeVore of Stockton spun on the last lap.
“This is the fastest this car has ever been”, said Kerby after the race. “When we can dominate every event of the night it’s been a great night!” Kerby added that the team would not have been able to race if one of their fans, Colleen Allen had not come along and sponsored a set of tires. “We’ve got a great crew and awesome fans, the fans are why we are here today, they wanted us to race in Stockton again.”
Kerby returns to Madera Speedway on July 12th to continue his bid for the track championship.![]()
