WVSO RESULTS FOR JULY 5, 2003WENATCHEE VALLEY'S SUPER OVAL
Source: Keith Danson, Media Coordinator
Wild Wes Childress continues to win with another Trophy Dash victory to start the evenings racing action, and points leader Andy Stibal took home the shiny stuff for the GN's. In the Elite Division, Wes Rhodes from Olympia won the first trophy and 2 time Series champ Kevin Hamlin won the 2nd. Because of time constraints, heat races were not run, it was straight to the Main Events! Because of the 6 car invert, Larry Sweeney from Chelan started up front for the Pepsi Mini Super Stocks, and so far this season Larry had won a Trophy Dash on May 10th and a heat race on June 28th. But starting up front must have did something to Sweeney, no mistakes and drove hard enough to prevent anyone from getting by! Darrin and Kevin Dietrich also from Chelan tried about everything to get Sweeney to get loose, but nothing worked. Darald Schall keeps up his consistentcy with a 4th place finish with Wes Childress in 5th, followed by Tom Ripley, Mike Pease, Jan Gall, Jeff Tarrant, Randy England, Brandon Knouf, Bjob Coffey, Larry Jobe and Brett Shanholtzer. The invert moved the faster cars into the middle of the pack, but it didn't take long before the cream rose the top for the Jerry's Auto Supply Grand Nationals. Both local classes had good clean racing going on up front, but especially in the GN's, a lot of rubbing going on back in the pack which kept fans looking everywhere to keep on all of the racing action. Trophy Dash winner and points leader Andy Stibal took his time and worked his way up front, only to be followed by new track record holder Scott Jones. Last week Jones was able to pass Stibal at the end of the Main, this week Stibal made the right adjustments and Scott was forced to settle for 2nd place. Lloyd Sims started up front in the same car in which Rod Pogue drove to last weeks start to finish win, and ended up 3rd, Tom Wentz stayed consistent placing 4th. Jerry Rowe got 5th followed by Amanda Rowe, Jason Ogle, Mke Sims, Vern Huson, Kurt Kleyn, Joe Ludeman, Kevin Burley, Mike Ledbetter, Lacey Ledbetter, Mitch Kleyn, Jeremy Osborn, Keli Ray, Terry Osborn and Kenny Evans. The Kegglers Casino 125 marked the 31st time the Raybestos Brakes Northwest Series has visited the Super Oval, and with hometown favorite Garrett Evans in pursuit of better luck this season and his 50th career win in the series. Yakima's Chris Hart started on the pole with Gary Lewis next to him and it took a couple of laps of side by side action before Hart was able to cleanly take the lead he would not let go of. Jeff Jefferson from Naches, winner of the 125 earlier this year, started 5th, and was able to stay on Harts rear bumper for the rest of the race just as Chris had done last time at the oval. Wes Rhodes started way back in 16th and kept moving forward and finished 3rd. Jason Jefferson had much better luck on the quartermile this time out and worked his way through the pack to finish 4th in his Dodge.
The Kegglers Casino 125 will be broadcast on Fox Sports NW on Monday July 14th, at 2 and 7pm. The fans had made a few posters and really showed their Wenatchee spirit all night long and a good time was had by all in attendance. Next Saturday Night July 12th the Pepsi Mini Super Stocks will race 2 Main Events! The Dicks Heating and Air Conditioning Thunder Cars will return as the Jerry's Auto Supply Grand Nationals will go at it again, gates open at 5, qualifiing at 6, racing at 7!
