xFaced with just seven minutes to run a 20 lap main event, the All Pro Series Pure Stock division got it done with no yellow flag interuptions, and Sue Curl scored her first career main event victory at Antioch Speedway Saturday night. Curl held off the late threat of fellow rookie Ty Duggins for second as Trevor Clymens finished a solid third. After the top five drivers failed to go to tech, Scott Merrell won the crash shortened 12 lap Dwarf Car feature ahead of rookie Brian Tillinger and David Barton.
An 18 car Pure Stock feature took to the John Soares Jr. prepared quarter-mile clay oval with less than ten minutes before curfew. Curl had started second with Duggins lined up fifth. Curl raced into the early lead over Dean Plambeck and Duggins. Plambeck spun out of second in Turn 4 of the second lap with Duggins now second. Clymens took third from Ken Rhoades on lap three. Curl built a commanding straightaway lead in just a few laps, and tenth starter Jeremy Prince took fifth from Robert Predmore III on lap ten. By then, Curl had caught heavy traffic and was taking it easy, allowing Duggins to quickly close the gap. Point leader Prince took fourth from Rhoades on lap 17 with C and B Main transfer Pual Landers also getting by for fifth. Curl quicky got around the slower cars and would bring it home a happy winner with Duggins a close second in front of Clymens, Prince, Landers and Tobi Madden.
Rusty Floris and Stan Silva Jr. drew front row starts for the 21 car Dwarf Car feature with Bert Endicott starting fifth. Floris raced into the early lead over Silva and Endicott. A caution flag flew for Glenn Cook on lap three. Floris chose the inside on the restart, but the #65 cars of Silva and Endicott raced into the first and second positions. A Turn 4 pass on lap seven gained John Anderson third, and a lap nine caution flag flew for rookie Jerry Holeman. The first restart attempt was botched when the battle for the lead in Turn 4 saw Silva, Mike Schwarz and Anderson tangled with Anderson rolling his car. He was uninjured. Endicott stayed on the inside on the restart and led Floris and 15th starter Mark Chaves. A caution flag flew for Bill Martinez in Turn 4 and Cook and Silva in Turn 2 on lap ten. Silva again led Floris, Chaves, Al Ghiorso and Martin Whittingham, and that's how the top five would look when the checkered and yellow flags unfurled on lap 12 after Viki Wilson flipped without injury in Turn 3. However, the top five were disqualified after failure to report to tech, giving the win to Merrell ahead
The 28 Pure Stocks ran four eight lap qualifying heat races with rookie Jeremy Petrell and Tim Ackerman among the winners. Predmore gained the lead from Jason Ryan on lap six to win his heat with Curl passing Petaluma visitor Steve Foster on lap four to win hers. Stuck in the eight lap C Main, Landers scored the victory ahead of Mel Matthews in the Sally Babcock car and the debuting Jason Mitchell. Tobi Madden won the 12 lap B Main in front of C Main transfers Landers and Mitchell. There were 23 Dwarf Cars in action for their second race of the season. After the disqualifications, Silva and Schwarz were credited with heat race victories with Anderson winning the other eight lapper. Hays got the dash win after Endicott's disqualification.
