SPORTS CARS GO OVAL RACING ON GOODYEAR EAGLES

** V8-STAR Series: American oval-track series cars have raced on road courses for many years, thrilling their fans as they competed out of their element.

But this series, a European sports car series, held its first-ever race on an oval course when it competed in the Goodyear 100 at Tri Oval Lausitzring in Germany. Goodyear, the world’s best-known oval track racing tiremaker, is the tire supplier for the series.

Series veteran Pedro Lamy won the race. He was followed by Thomas Mutsch, Robert Lechner, Sascha Bert and Patrick Michaels.

** Rolex Sports Car Series: Forest Barber started the race and Terry Borcheller finished and the pair co-drove their Daytona Prototype class Chevrolet Doran to victory in the Paul Revere 250 at Daytona International Speedway. It was their second victory in less than one week.

The winners covered the 250-mile distance at an average speed of 104.603 mph.

Tommy Riggins and Dave Machavern teamed to drive their Ford Mustang to second place overall and first place in the GTS class. They finished 14.465 seconds behind the winners and claimed their fourth straight class victory.

David Donohue and Mike Borkowski drove their Porsche Fabcar to third place overall and second place in the Daytona Prototype class. NASCAR Winston Cup star Kyle Petty teamed with Peter Baron and Shane Lewis to finish seventh overall and second in the GTS class. The trio drove a Porsche GT1.

Goodyear is the exclusive tire supplier for the Daytona Prototype and GTS classes.

Cort Wagner and Brent Martini drove their Ferrari 360GT to victory in the GT class, finishing seventh overall.

** USAR Hooters Pro Cup Series: Jeff Agnew won the Naturally Fresh Foods 250 at Kil-Kare Speedway in Xenia, Ohio. The race was a points-paying event in the Series’ Northern Division.

Agnew finished .364 of a second ahead of Hal Goodson. Jay Fogleman was third, followed by Brian Ross and Derrick Kelley.

Ross won the Advance Auto Parts Pole Award, touring the 3/8-mile oval in 13.849 seconds or 97.480 mph. Ross led the first 223 laps before Agnew took the lead and held the point to the end of the race.

** CRA Sunoco Super Series: Scott Hantz won his second race of the 2003 season and the 10th of his career in the Hargus Memorial Firecracker 150 at Angola Motor Speedway in Angola, Ind. The track is a 3/8-mile, high-banked oval.

Brian Rievley won the Yockey Motorsports Fast Qualifier Award.

Bobby Parsley finished second in the race. He was followed by J.R. Roahrig, Eddie Van Meter and Junior Hanley.

Tom Hernly Jr. and Roahrig won the Goodyear Performance Awards.

** Sprints On Dirt: Tim Allison swept the two-race King of Michigan weekend at Hartford Speedway in Hartford, Mich. He won the features in of the King of Michigan Tuneup and the Briggs Composites King of Michigan IV.

When Allison won the Tuneup, it was his first victory of the season. In the second race, he took the lead from Erin Crocker on lap 20 and led the rest of the way.

Dustin Daggett finished second in both races.

On the first night, Darren Long was third, followed by Dain Naida and Crocker. On the second night, Crocker finished third after leading two laps. Naida was fourth and Long took fifth.

Mike Woodring and Mike Dussell won the Goodyear Racing Tire Heat races. Dussell narrowly beat Daggett in the Goodyear Champions Challenge.

** UARA-STARS: Bo Miller won the Firecracker 150 at Fairgrounds Speedway in Nashville, Tenn. It was his eighth victory in 12 races this season.

Joe Buford finished second, Allen Gordon was third, Lee Tissot took fourth and Michael Green came in fifth.

Josh Adams posted the fastest time in qualifying with a lap of 19.573 seconds around the 5/8-mile oval, good for 112.40 mph.####
