Jon Wood, the most recent winner on the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series, captured his second career Bud Pole Friday in qualifying for Saturday's Built Ford Tough 225 at Kentucky Speedway. Wood, driving the Bob Graham For President Ford, lapped the 1.5-mile superspeedway at a record speed of 169.641 mph. Wood, the winner July 5 at Kansas Speedway, edged Bobby Hamilton's Square D Dodge by just.024 second as Hamilton qualified on the outside front row for the third time in 2003. Hamilton's speed of 169.513 also broke Bryan Reffner's three-year-old qualifying mark of 168.460, as did the speed of the No. 3 qualifier Chad Chaffin, Dickies Dodge of 168.734. Defending Kentucky Speedway Bud Pole winner Jason Leffler qualified fourth with Raybestos Rookie-of-the-Year leader Carl Edwards fifth. Edwards, however, changed an engine between practice and qualifying and will have to fall to the rear at the start of the 150-lap, 225-mile race. Ted Musgrave, Brendan Gaughan, Matt Crafton, Bill Lester and 1995 series champion Mike Skinner - making his first appearance since 1998 - completed the top-10 qualifiers. Series points leader Travis Kvapil will start 14th in the 36-truck field. Andy Hillenburg and Blake Mallory failed to make the race.
