Saturday, July 19 was Buzz Inn Steakhouse and Bullseye BBQ Sauce Night at Evergreen Speed Way in Monroe, WA. Tom Moriarity took the checkered flag in the NASCAR Super Stocks Weekly Racing Series Presented by Dodge. Ken Jorgensen took the Mini Stocks feature. The winner of the Randy’s Ring & Pinion Bombers feature was Bill Mann. The Super F8 was won by Steve Peters and the Xtreme F8 feature went to Ben Raynes.

Points leader John Zaretzke was looking for another victory to secure his lead over defending track champion Tom Moriarity in the 50 lap NASCAR Super Stocks feature. Zaretzke had the pole off of a four-car invert. He held the lead several laps while Moriarity passed John Pierce and started breathing down Zaretzke’s neck. Moriarity passed Zaretzke for the lead at the start of Lap 6. Matt Murphy eased into third. The yellow flag was out in Lap 11 after Joey Decker found himself off of the turn one barrier and required assistance to return to the track. He was involved in another multi-car tangle at the back of the pack in Lap 18. All cars were able to continue. Murphy managed to climb outside of Zaretzke in Lap 28 and get into second. Moriarity of Monroe was dominant and took the checkered flag while holding several car lengths ahead of Murphy. Final results had Murphy of Lynnwood in second, Zaretzke of Maltby was third and Pierce of Monroe fourth.

NASCAR Mini Stock points leader Scott La Cross was Driver of the Week at Evergreen Speedway. La Cross started at the back of the field in the Mini Stock feature. A melee in Lap 3 required the cars be lined up again. Jamie Richardson came off in the lead. Dave Ramey and Ken Jorgensen fought for second. Jorgensen got inside of Richardson for the lead at Lap 8. Richardson went into a spin and lost position. Meanwhile, La Cross was making his move sliding into third by Lap 15. La Cross had trouble out of turn two and lost position. Jorgensen of Surrey B.C. took the checkered flag. Dave Ramey of Everett was second and Stacey Alseth of Everett third.

The Randy’s Ring & Pinion Bombers returned to the oval for a 30-lap feature. The winner of the B Main race was Jim Foti with Chad Smith second. Both drivers opted to move up to the A Main. The A Main feature had Bill Mann of Lake Stevens quickly establish a strong lead but when Frank Cowgill skidded off the course, Charles Davis took advantage of Mann’s hesitation and grabbed the front. Mann managed to push past Davis once more. Kyle Cooley of Stanwood came up for second place with Jason Fraser firmly entrenched near his bumper. No one ever seriously challenged Mann again. He took the checkered flag. Cooley held on for second and Fraser third. Naima Lang slid past Bill Eddy at the white flag lap for a final fourth place.

FEAR ruled for two features on July 19. The Super F8 had Wendy Boyd leading until lap 9. Tony Crenshaw briefly had the lead but Steve Peters in his Battlewagon pushed to the fore and Doug Wilkinson followed closely. The red flag came out for Jessica Wilkinson to get a push off the field. Lap 16 saw action at the intersection and a couple of cars left on hooks. John Carlson moved up to second, challenging Peters for the lead, which he never quite achieved. Peters of Monroe took the checkered flag and dedicated the win to his dad. Carlson of Snohomish took second. Shane Sawin of Clearview ran a smooth F8 and took third. Doug Delfel of Everett was fourth.

The Xtreme Contact F8 saw Gordy Severson hit the ground running. Geoff Chandler bumped to the front to challenge Severson. Noah Chandler knocked Doug Delfel out of position in lap 6 then in lap 10 Noah Chandler tangled with Severson. The red flag came out so Severson’s car could be pushed off. Geoff Chandler stayed out front with Troy Simianer in pursuit. Simianer took over the lead as Severson returned to the field. It looked like Simianer was going to have an easy win but in the last turn before the checkered flag, Ben Raynes of Duvall who had been holding second, moved in. Simianer went into a spin and traffic started to take advantage of his plight. Raynes took the win. Doug Delfel of Everett took second, Geoff Chandler Of Kirkland third and Noah Chandler, also of Kirkland, fourth.

The Dash race results saw John Pierce of Monroe take the dash for the Super Stocks. Ken Jorgensen of Surrey B.C. was the Mini Stocks Dash winner after leading the entire race. Frank Cowgill of Seattle won the Randy’s Ring & Pinion Bomber Dash. The Super F8 Dash winner was Ben Raynes of Duvall and the Xtreme Contact F8 Dash winner was Everett’s Doug Delfel.

The unique feature race of the evening was a Coors Grudge Race. A dozen Coors distributors were strapped into some of the Hornet cars. The neophytes put on a great spirited race for the Evergreen crowds. Dave Moe was the winner. This was his second year in the grudge race.####
