Taking the lead from Sal Mannina on a lap 17 restart, Darrell Hanestad went on to victory in the 25 lap All Pro Series Wingless Spec Sprint Main Event Saturday night at Antioch Speedway. The win was the eighth of the season for point leader Hanestad aboard his S&S Automotive sponsored Eagle Chassis. Mannina held off Danny Olmstead for a career best second place finish aboard his M&P Builders sponsored Hurricane Chassis.
There were 26 Wingless Spec Sprints in action, and Roy Fisher had a hard Turn 2 crash in hot laps force him to miss his heat. Olmstead made a lap four pass on David Hays Jr. to win his six lap heat race. Other heat wins went to Billy Fraser, Scott Merrell and Bob Newberry. John Hendrickson rolled in his heat race four times on the back stretch to end his night, and John Keith hit the Turn 4 wall in his heat to end his second start in his new car. Fraser also won the four lap Trophy Dash. Absent for several weeks making home improvements, Bill Wallace Jr. impressed by leading all ten laps to win the B Main ahead of Joey Santos and Doug Henry.
Mannina and Shawn DeForest had the front row for the Main Event with Hanestad starting eighth and Olmstead 12th. Mannina set the early pace ahead of Daryl Moore and Hays. Hanestad was in fourth by lap two and grabbed third on lap five. The race ran 12 laps without a caution flag. Working on lapping B Main transfer Fisher, Mannina made contact with a sideways Fisher. As Mannina went by, Fisher rolled and collected Moore. Mannina led Hanestad and Goodwill on the restart. Contact between Olmstead and Goodwill in Turn 4 of the 16th lap saw Goodwill slip back to fifth behind Olmstead and Merrell, and the caution flag flew for a Jason McIntosh spin. On this restart, Mannina got too high exiting Turn 2, and Hanestad raced underneath for the lead. Hanestad led through one more quick yellow for a stalled Brian Lokmor. While Hanestad sped home to victory, Mannina held off a determined Olmstead for the impressive second place finish. Goodwill finished fourth after a lap 23 pass on Merrell, who finished fifth.
