It was an electrifying night at the Evergreen Speedway in Monroe, WA on Sat., Aug. 30. The NASCAR Weekly Series featured another heated Super Stocks battle between defending track champion Tom Moriarity and Maltbys John Zaretzke. Moriarity passed Zaretzke at the line on the last lap for his ninth win of the year. Dwayne Lanes Night also included Mini Stocks, the Randys Ring & Pinion Bombers, FEAR and more. The racing went on inside the track while outside the Evergreen State Fair went on. Race fans got the best of both worlds.

Results for the evening included a Super Stocks win for Monroes own Tom Moriarity. Mini Stocks driver Ken Jorgensen of Surrey B.C. took the checkered flag for that feature. Ricky Deitz of Arlington won the FEAR Super F8. The Xtreme Contact feature was won by Steve Peters of Kirkland. Randys Ring & Pinion Bomber driver Naima Lang of Everett took the checkered flag for that race. Clark Casey

The 50 lap Super Stocks feature started on a ten-car invert. Monroes Tom Moriarity came into the race only one point ahead of John Zaretzke and seeking to extend that gap with a win. Ron Fritzley shot ahead of the pack for several laps. Zaretzke quickly moved up into second, began seriously challenging Fritzley for the lead and passed him on lap 12. Moriarity really didnt begin moving until lap 15, then he began picking up slots with regularity. By lap 34 he had Zaretzke in his sights. A red flag on Lap 46 brought up the field. The last few laps saw Moriarity and Zaretzke fighting fiercely. They were side by side coming out of turn 4. The crowd was on its feet as Moriarity took the checkered flag at the finish line with Zaretzke only a heartbeat behind. Fritzley held on for third place. Kelly Mann took fourth.

The Mini Stocks race started with Bobby DeYoung establishing a lead that Donna Gentry eventually toppled. But by lap 23 Gentry was overtaken by Ken Jorgensen, then Michael Johnston and Scott LaCross. Jorgensen held on for the win. Johnston was second, points leader LaCross was third. This would be Jorgensens last race at Evergreen this season. It made a nice Evergreen season close for the Surrey B.C. driver.

The Super F8 class started with a 15-lap B Main race. Richard Pimms and Arnold Fleshour were offered the opportunity to move up to the B Main. The A Main started with Chuck Widdis bursting out front. Jessica Wilkinson pushed past him by lap 8 of the 30 lap feature. Widdis took the lead back at lap 12 and Wilkinson found she had Doug Delfel challenging her. She ran side by side with Delfel until their battle was caught in a collision, giving the second position to Delfel. Widdis stayed up front. Steve Peters moved up to third. A bumper stuck in a fender took the top three out of contention. Ricky Deitz took advantage of the situation to take the lead and the checkered flag. Wendi Boyd was second. Pat Clark was fourth and Jessica Wilkinson salvaged fourth.

The Xtreme F8 race started out with multiple collisions in the first five laps. A red flag finally came out to allow some of the crippled vehicles to be moved to the pits. The green put the Chandlers, Geoff and Noah, out in front. Steve Peters pushed through, taking the lead. Troy Simianer started chasing Peters. The race ended with Peters taking the checkered flag. Troy Simianer of Bothell came over the line right on Peters bumper. Simianer won a Hard Charger Award for his outstanding performance. Perry Huffman took the third spot and Jody Brooks was fourth.

Randys Ring & Pinion Bombers always start with a B Main race to give two drivers the opportunity to move up to the A Main race. After a feature filled with spinouts and flying tires, Mike Ebeling and Geoff Harrington took the first and second slots and earned the move up. Vic Fort had the lead at the start of the Bomber A Main. Gary Flammang stayed close behind. Jim Risher was holding third but Everetts Naima Lang was moving. By lap 13 he had passed everyone for the lead. Fort was chasing but Lang was putting car lengths between himself and the pack. Jason Fraser had moved up into third then overtook Fort. Lang took the checkered flag unchallenged for his second win of the season. Fraser held on for second, Fort finished third and Jim Foti was fourth.

There were five dash races on Saturday. The Super Stocks dash was won by John Zaretzke. The Mini Stocks dash winner was Michael Johnston of Monroe. The Bomber dash was won by Steve Ptacek of Kirkland. Harry Clements of Snohomish took the FEAR Super F8 dash while Noah Chandler of Kirkland won the Xtreme Contact dash.

A Special feature for the evening was an appearance by the Brain Damage Jet Dragster. The vehicle, which has run at more than 340 mph, melted two junker cars while spectators watched.
