BAKERSFIELD, California -- Devlin Autry scored the first win of his rookie campaign Saturday night at Mesa Marin Raceway. Autry started off the night in high gear finishing first in the second of two heat races. Gary Elmore took fast time in qualifying with a 19.851. Autry out raced Mike Riale who finished in second place giving him his tenth top five of the season. Sunbelt Regional Points Leader Brian Richardson finished the night in third place giving him his first Mesa Marin Raceway Late Model Championship. With Autrys win, their now stands a one point difference between third place Josh Horn and Autry for fourth place. Eric Richardson finished in fourth place for the night.
Dan Holtz inched his way closer to his second track championship by qualifying quickest with a time of 18.770. After the full field invert Holtz started last with Russell White starting on the pole and Jeremy Salamacha next to him in the 75 lap main event. Johnny Antonino led most of the 75 laps but broke a rear end on lap 47. That gave Holtz the lead and he finished the night with his fifth win of the season. Brett Landes finished the night in second place with his #11 car. That gave him his fifth top five of the season. Rod Johnson finished the night in third place for his first race of the year at Mesa Marin.
The Mechanix Wear Speed Truck Challenge Series returned for the third race of the year. John Burritt and his #21 truck took the checkered flag ahead of points leader Lee Hatch. Burritt, who entered the night thirty-two points behind put a small dent into Hatchs lead with his placing second. Donny Goodwin rounded out the top three with his best finish of the season at Mesa Marin Raceway and his #33 machine.
The Auto Club 911 Race for Youth Series took a different turn tonight as the Chiefs of each department took to the track. Kern County Fire Department driver Mark Chaffin took the checkered flag in the fifteen lap main event. Joe Estrada, guest driver for The Original Pool Sweep Shoppe placed second, Kern County Sheriff Mack Wimbish drove his #2 car into a third place finish and Ken Taylor of the Kern County Superintendent of Schools finished the night in fourth place. The Kern County Parks and Recreation Department hold a twelve point lead over the Bakersfield Police Department.
JD Walker and the North High Stars raced into victory lane with their third win of the season in the ChevronTexaco High School Racing Series. North High maintains lead over Tehachapi High School. Adam Mackall placed second in the fifteen lap main event for the Warriors and Mojave Highs Adrian Luna ran in third place for their fifth top five of the season. North extended their points to ten ahead of Tehachapi.![]()
