PRICE, Utah -- Jared Elwell captured the win on the final night of point racing for the Intermountain Mini Sprints on September 13 at Price, Utah. Elwell entered the main 45 points behind Tim Savage in the point standings and was determined to do everything possible to win the race and the championship. Elwell took the lead coming off turn 4 at the end of the first lap and led every lap of the caution free main event. Elwell began encountering lapped cars on lap 5, but was smooth and consistent through the race. IMS President Mike Kesler had his best showing of the year finishing in 2nd place. Tim Savage started 11th in the field and needed a 9th place or better showing in the main to wrap up the championship. Savage passed 2 cars on the lap 5 and slowly and cautiously worked his way through the field finishing 3rd. Charley Hanna finished while Jason Elwell who entered the main with a 2 point lead over Bob Brewer for 5th in points, used a 5th place finish to secure 5th place in the points, giving the Elwell family 3 of the top 5 positions in the championship.
Heat races were won by Charley Hanna and Jack Elwell. The trophy dash was won by Jared Elwell.
The Intermountain Mini Sprints final show of the year will be a non-points race on September 27th at Desert Thunder Raceway in Price, Utah. This race will be an added attraction to a WDRA Late Model race. There is also the possibility that this will be a non-wing race as several drivers with experience driving midgets have lobbied for a non-wing event.![]()
