BLOOMINGTON, California -- With a new Crew Chief named, the new race shop nearingcompletion as well as the addition of a new racecar to the stable,there’s a lot going on at the Woods Racing operation here inBloomington.
The new 5,000 sq. ft. race shop is nearing completion. The walls areup and the roof is going on. Once the roof is on, the team will beworking on the racecars while carpenters finish the shop’s interiorstructures.
The Woods team is about to begin assembling their second racecar. It’shoped that this new speedway car will be done in time for the Fontanarace, Nov. 1st.
It was officially announced at Saturday’s team meeting that DuaneDrummond has been named Woods Racing’s new Crew Chief. Duane has broadexperience in NASCAR racing, this is his first position as Crew Chief.He was chassis specialist on the #00 Winston West team and also workedon the Winston Cup teams of Ricky Craven and Terry Labonte. His can-doattitude, leadership and commitment to having fun as well as winningraces make him a bright addition to this race team.
“I’m very impressed with this team. The people here are very good atwhat they do. All this team needs is money. I have worked onhigh-budget race teams that could afford anything, but were lacking intheir people’s skills. I’d rather have the people than the money. Ofcourse the top teams have both and we’re working on that. Also, Geneis a very good driver. It looks like Woods Racing will finish theirfirst full season of Winston West, in the top ten. That’s reallyhuge.” Duane said.
