MERCED, California -- Making it a successful title defense, Ramie Stone won the 25 lap IMCA Modified feature Saturday night at Merced Speedway to clinch his second straight division championship. This was Stone's 13th feature win of the season aboard his James Stone & Sons Chopping Service sponsored Flexi Flyer Chassis. Point leader Tim Ragsdale held off division rival Randy Brewer to win the 25 lap CCMR Food 4 Less Series Street Stock Main event. Former Pure Stock champions Mike Hamilton and Andy Welch raced to the 1-2 finish in the Hobby Stock feature, and Kevin Freitas clinched the California Sportsman championship with his 20 lap Main Event victory. Dan Holcomb closed in on the Pure Stock title with his 20 lap Main Event win, and Steve Van Zant won the 15 lap Mini Outlaw feature.

In the IMCA Modified Main Event, R. Stone charged to the front quickly from eighth starting. He ran strong in the lead as Bob Williamson found his way into second. Despite some mid race pressure from Williamson, R. Stone prevailed at the checkered. Williamson settled for second in his L&L Toy sponsored D&M Performance Chassis ahead of 14th starter Troy Stone. Second place point contenders Garrett Steitz and Bill Saltzman rounded out the top five. Steitz leads Saltzman by just seven points in the battle for second. Steitz and Marsh won eight lap heat races, while Ray Mayer claimed four lap Trophy Dash honors. Ricky Thatcher set the early pace in the Street Stock feature as Ragsdale and Brewer charged into second and third. Ragsdale made his move around Thatcher for the lead on lap seven, and Thatcher surrendered second to Brewer on lap 13. Brewer challenged Ragsdale briefly, but Ragsdale was not to be denied his division leading eighth victory. Brewer settled for second as Phillip Lust made a late move for third. 2002 champion John Clarke also got by Thatcher, who settled for fifth. Clarke won the four lap Trophy Dash and Brewer won the six lap heat race. Ragsdale leads Brewer by 30 points in the close championship battle. Taking advantage of a front row start, Hamilton raced into the lead at the start of the Hobby Stock feature. After a hard crash at Chowchilla Friday night, Marshall Weaver borrowed the Dan Stephens car and was an early challenger for Hamilton. However, Welch had other ideas as he took second during the second half of the race. Welch could only chase Hamilton, who scored a much needed victory. Point leader Andrew Krumm made a late pass on Weaver to finish third. Weaver and Russ Wells rounded out the top five finishers. Six lap heat race wins went to Welch and Lester Beavers, and Welch continued a good night with a four lap Trophy Dash win. Hoping to grab his second win of the season, Rob Schropp set the early pace in the California Sportsman Main Event, but when he got out of shape in Turn 4, Freitas made his move for the lead. From there, Freitas pulled away to nearly a half lap lead for his 13th victory. Tim Goodson would grab the second place finish ahead of Gary Tucker as Tucker challenges Schropp for second in the standings. Schropp won the six lap heat race with Freitas the four lap Trophy Dash winner. Within five laps, Holcomb had a huge lead in the Pure Stock Main Event. Aaron Widick soon found himself in second, but the lack of caution flags played in point leader Holcomb's favor as he cruised to his eighth feature win. Last week's winner, Donald Davis, finished third. Widick won the six lap heat race, while Holcomb scored the four lap Trophy Dash victory. Van Zant's Mini Outlaw feature win came ahead of James Williams and Chowchilla Super 4 Mini Stock point leader Ron Martinez.
