SERIES LEADER VIDOVICH READY FOR NEWLY MODIFIED PHOENIX TRACK

LAKESIDE, California -- NASCAR Elite Division, Featherlite Southwest Series leader Auggie Vidovich is more than ready for this weekend's race at Phoenix International Raceway after increasing his point lead by 28 points with a 2nd at Tucson Raceway Park. Vidovich is now leading the series by 100 points heading into Phoenix after coming in 2nd to last year's series champion Eddy McKeon by a margin of 1.59 seconds.

As the Southwest Series drivers prepare for this weekend's upcoming race " The PhoenixRaceway.Com 100" they will be the first competitors to check out the recently modified 1-mile D-shaped oval. Phoenix International Raceway just completed changes to the track in the Turn 2 backside straightaway for the upcoming "double header" featuring the Southwest and Winston West Series'. By moving the Turn 2 wall outward it created a much wider racing surface, therefore, creating a new passing area along with making the turn a little faster. Another much welcomed addition to the track is the vehicle and pedestrian tunnel in Turn 4.

Series point leader, Auggie Vidovich is eager to check out the new aspect of the track which should provide for some very exciting and competitive racing this weekend. NASCAR has the Featherlite Southwest Series stopping by PIR three times this year where Vidovich qualified 5th and finished 2nd in February before the changes to the track. The series will also conclude here October 30 with the final race in conjunction with the Winston Cup, Busch and Craftsman Truck series'. The series ending here at Phoenix along with the following week's inaugural NASCAR Toyota All-Star Show Down at Irwindale November 6-8 will have the series ending with a media frenzy covering the series finale and Irwindale invite-only event.

Twenty-two year old Vidovich has been in the hunt for a win this year but appreciates the top finishes he and the Vidovich Racing team has achieved this season having posted 7 top-5 and 10 top-10 finishes. Vidovich continues to be the only series competitor to have completed all laps run up to the Phoenix race totaling 1502.

Watch for the No. 59 Creative Touch Interiors, Carquest, Ransom Brothers Lumber, No Fear, Sobe, Spy, Ron's Rear Ends, DPI, Sierra Brakes Chevrolet in the PhoenixRaceway.Com 100 race to be aired "tape delayed" October 13 thru 19 on Fox Sports Net. Check your local cable listings.####
