Source: Kristy Palmer
Nick Behn qualified fastest and set a new Street Stock Shootout track record with a 15.71 lap. Two dashes were run Saturday night and Willy Thom of Dundee, OR and Mike Carlson of Rochester won them. Scott Zahn of Rochester won the dash on Sunday afternoon. There were two 15-lap heat races run for the Street Stocks. The line-up for the main event is done by the heat race finishes so the racing was intense. Brad Stanwood of Portland led the first heat race for seven laps before Nick Behn of Rochester got around him to win. Stanwood was second, followed by Gary Perry of Winston, OR. Willy Thom led all 15 laps of the second heat race and finished with Bobby Micielli of Olympia and Brian Overturf of Portland close behind. Brian Overturf and Gary Perry had the front row for the main event. Overturf led the first lap but it was Bobby Micielli in the second row that powered to the front. Overturf held onto second and Brad Stanwood moved into third. The first car out of the race was Mike Collins of Coos Bay who had a fuel leak and was unable to repair it. The second out was Bobby Moore of Chehalis and then Mike Carlson. On lap 23, Stanwood got passed Overturf for second. Nick Behn had moved into fourth and Willy Thom into fifth with Perry still in sixth. Behn eventually got passed Overturf but on lap 36, a fire was noticed under Behn's car. The race was red flagged and the fire was put out and Behn continued racing, although he lost three positions for being the cause of the caution. The race continued but Jim Moen of Olympia didn't after leaving puddles of water on the track. By lap 49, Behn had moved up into fifth right behind Willy Thom. However, Thom did not stay there long. He spun on lap 54 and then left the track on lap 57. He returned seven laps later. Behn had now moved into third with Micielli and Stanwood still way ahead of him. Overturf was in fourth and Gary Perry was in fifth. Perry moved ahead of Overturf on lap 66. Lap 97 brought the second and final caution. This time it was for major oil on the track that came from Dan Fouts car, of Roseberg. On the restart, Behn passed two cars before the green and was penalized a lap. After the final 100th lap, it was Bobby Micielli capturing the win. Brad Stanwood was in second with Gary Perry in third all on the lead lap. Finishing a lap down was Behn in fourth and Overturf in fifth. Scott Zahn was sixth followed by Mark Pothoff of Dundee, OR, Dan Fouts, Paul Short of Puyallup and Don Livermore of Roseberg. In the Four Cylinder Classic, Kevin Bell of Centralia was the fastest qualifier. Winning dashes throughout the weekend were Bob Emerson of Lakewood, Larry Jobe of Wenatchee, Tom Keehan of Buckley, Freeman Pruitt of Eatonville and Scott Earsley of Tacoma. There were four heat races for the 29 cars that qualified for the Four Cylinder Classic. Kevin Bell topped the first heat with Bob Coffey of Toledo and Dale Roberts of Enumclaw in tow. Matt Stickler of Tacoma, Dave Ramey of Lynnwood and Wayne Dillon of Rochester topped the second heat. Ken Jorgensen of Surrey, BC won the third heat with Nick Behn and Eric Angeledes of Auburn finishing the top three. The top three of the fourth heat were Bob Emerson, Scott Earsley and Jeff Long of Port Angeles. On Sunday, three more cars showed up to run the main event making the B main full with 16 cars. Jerry Buell led the first seven laps of the 50 lap main event. The first caution was throwing on lap five for debris after Pete Brady of Tacoma and Jack Allen of Tacoma got together. There was no major damage and both cars continued. Buell lost the lead on lap eight to Wes Childress of Wenatchee. Buell moved into second with Freeman Pruitt in third. Soon Pete Brady was right up there into second with Pruitt in third and Buell in fifth. Dennis Shaffer of Tacoma moved into fourth. On lap 16 there was another caution. This one was for Brett Wilson of Pacific and Josh Wilson of Arlington getting together. Brett Wilson hit the wall at the pit entrance. He was fine but left the track. Thom VanGesen had moved into fourth after the restart was looking hard for third. He got it on lap 37. Things looked good for VanGesen until he got caught up and Pruitt got back in front of him on lap 49. Wes Childress won with Pete Brady in second. They automatically moved into the A main. Freeman Pruitt finished third and declined the Promoters Choice to move into the A main. Thom VanGesen in fourth and Jordan McGregor in fifth were then chosen to move up. Nineteen cars started the 100-lap main event. Bob Emerson took the lead on lap 2 and never looked back. Dave Ramey held onto second. The first caution was on lap four for Larry Jobe who spun. Ramey lost second and was pushed back to fourth after Ken Jorgensen and Matt Stickler got around him. Wayne Dillon was the first car out of the race with Nick Behn, Kevin Bell and Jobe following a few laps later. The final caution came on lap 43 when Scott Earsley spun. At that time, the field took a gas stop. The cars could fill with gas but nothing else. The pack came back out and ran caution less through the end of the race. Childress lost three laps when he got a flat tire in the pits. Bob Emerson was the winner over Ken Jorgensen by half a car at the line. Third went to Matt Stickler. Bob Coffey and Kyle Vantreight of Victoria, BC were the rest of the top five. Sixth through tenth were Thom VanGesen of Port Angeles, Pete Brady of Tacoma, Wes Childress, Jim Perry of Auburn, and Lorry Safford of Tacoma. Next Saturday night, October 11th, will be the 300-Lap Factory Stock Enduro and Sportsman Championships.
