BLYTHE, California -- Opening Night for the Lucas Oil I-10 Speedway Winter Blast is October 11 (Saturday). Races on Opening Night will be sponsored by DENNY’S in Blythe, CA. An exciting lineup will be featured in several divisions. The Budweiser MODIFIEDS will race with a larger field of cars this season. Larry Gerchman, the 2002-2003 Budweiser Modified champion, returns to defend his title. He will have his work cut out for him again since front-runners Chris Weiss, Randy Forbis, Mike Schuringa, David Gerchman, and Steve Almquist are all returning in search of a season championship. In addition, Robert Davis, formerly driving the #3 PURE STOCK, will drive a modified this season.
The Sunoco Fuel PURE STOCKS will also race on Opening Night. Justin Good, the 2002-2003 Sunoco Fuel PURE STOCK champion, will return to attempt another season championship. Several local drivers, including Brian Faulkner, George Olmsted, and Johnny del Pino, are determined to bring home the season championship trophy. Jimmy Rouse and Blake Usilton will travel to the I-10 Speedway in search of a championship.
The INEX LEGENDS CARS will run in a points series this season. We expect to see the return of John Burritt, Gary Scheuerell, Cory Miles, Austin Grabowski, Tom Skahill, Andrew Murphy, Bill Voss, Chris Gerchman and many others. The Legends Cars drivers have been big supporters of the Lucas Oil I-10 Speedway and always deliver fast-paced, competitive racing.
The INEX BANDOLEROS provide a venue for young boys and girls to get involved in racing. The Murphy Racing Team, which consists of Austin, Andrew, and Brock, will be returning along with several other drivers. Jimmy Rouse, Jr. will be joining the BANDOLEROS this year as a rookie.
Opening Night of the 2003-2004 Winter Blast promises to offer some exciting short track stock car racing. The public gates open at 5:00 PM and races start at 7:00 PM. Ticket information is available at www.i10speedway.com/tickets.cfm. The Family Pak offers a lot of entertainment value for $20.00.
Congratulations to Larry Gerchman, who won the series championship in the Modified Division at Las Vegas this year. Jimmy Rouse holds on to second place in points in the Pro-Stock division at the Orange Show Speedway and Michelle Docks is in very good position to win the Lady’s PURE STOCK division at the Orange Show Speedway.
