VENTURA, Calif. (Oct. 30, 2003) – The biggest word in the English language is ‘potential’ and rookie racer Ashley Utts has shown plenty of it in her first two starts at Ventura Raceway. Utts will bring her Ford Mustang to Ventura for her third race Saturday, Nov. 1.

Utts started 12th in the Pony Stock main event last weekend and was running eighth after four laps when a flat tire sidelined her for the remainder of the event.

“Well, at least now I know what a flat tire feels like,” Utts said. “The car was really fast until we had the problem. I can’t wait to get out there again.”

Utts is a junior at Oaks Christian High School, where she is an honor student and a member of the varsity volleyball team. The team is playing well enough to have a chance to earn a berth in the California Interscholastic Federation’s Southern Section playoffs.

The 16-year-old Utts lives in Camarillo with her parents.

Ashely’s father, Charles Utts and her grandfather, Charlie, both have raced at Ventura Raceway, as has Ashley’s mother, Kristen Utts. Utts Racing has more than 50 main event victories and has won track and regional racing championships.####
