PENDLETON, Indiana -- The American Speed Association has announced the ASA Late Model Series will make its debut at Shady Bowl Speedway in DeGraff, Ohio, on Saturday, July 17.

"Shady Bowl Speedway is a track that has a high awareness in its region, based on a strong history and solid fan following," said Joe Balash, ASA vice-president, race operations. "Charlie Stapleton and his staff are well regarded. I believe this is a good fit for both the ASA Late Model Series and Shady Bowl Speedway."

The country's fastest .30-mile paved oval, Shady Bowl Speedway in DeGraff, Ohio, is one of the premier weekly short tracks in the Buckeye State with seating more than 4,000. Although many of the top racing divisions have visited the Western Ohio track, this marks the first occasion an ASA event will take place at Shady Bowl Speedway.

"It's unbelievable to be able to host an ASA Racing event in 2004," said Charlie Stapleton, owner of Shady Bowl Speedway. "The size and configuration at the 'Bowl' will lend to side-by-side racing. I'm impressed with the direction of the ASA Late Model Series and glad to be a part of the series next season."

The entire 2004 ASA Late Model Series schedule continues to be formulated with a total of 14 events expected to make up the final slate. This announcement marks the 10th date formalized by ASA officials.

Officials are planning for 100-lap green flag races with a preference to not have competitors changing tires, adding fuel or needing pit stops during the events. The cars will include makes from three major manufacturers - General Motors, Ford and Dodge. They will utilize template bodies and engines from all three.

Rules for the 2004 ASA Late Model Series are available by contacting the ASA office at (765) 778-8088. For additional information, visit www.asaracing.com.####
