SONOMA, California -- The Motorock Trans-Am Tour will return to Infineon Raceway for a second consecutive year in 2004 as part of the Dodge/Save Mart 350 NASCAR NEXTEL Cup weekend, June 25-27.
The event will, once again, take the green flag approximately 30 minutes after the conclusion of the Dodge/Save Mart 350 on Sunday, June 27. In addition to adding a top-notch feature to the race schedule, the Trans-Am 100 helped ease congestion on area roadways in 2003 as most fans remained to watch America’s oldest continuously running road-racing series.
Fans are again invited to continue their day at Infineon Raceway as standouts like Boris Said battle the twisting road course in V-8 powered sports cars. Said took second in last year’s Trans-Am 100, sat on the pole for the Dodge/Save Mart 350 and also competed in the NASCAR Southwest Series event. The 2004 event will mark the 19th year Trans-Am has competed in the Sonoma Valley.
“The Trans-Am Tour has a long-standing heritage at Infineon Raceway and last year’s race was a terrific addition to our premier event weekend,” said Steve Page, president and general manager at Infineon Raceway. “This also gives fans the opportunity to enjoy some of the best in sports car racing.”
Trans-Am, which first graced the road course at Infineon Raceway in 1969, will make its 26th appearance in the Sonoma Valley in 2004 and has a long list of accomplished winners at Infineon Raceway, including Mark Donohue, Dorsey Schroeder, Willy T. Ribbs, Wally Dallenbach Jr., and Scott Sharp, to name just a few.
“We’re pleased to announce Infineon Raceway will be a part of our 2004 schedule,” said Motorock Trans-Am Tour Executive Director John Clagett. “Last year’s event, which showcased Trans-Am drivers doing double and even triple duty, was one of the high points of the 2003 tour. We’re looking forward to another competitive and exciting race.”
The Trans-Am Tour, which celebrates its 39th anniversary in 2004, competes on permanent road courses, and temporary street and airport circuits throughout North America.![]()
