When the Green Flag signals the start of Round 2 of the NASCAR AutoZone Elite Division Southwest Series, Saturday evening, March 13, at Madera Speedway in Madera, Calif., Nick Lynch will be ready to power his No. 29 Mr. Gas /Yerf-Dog Chevy to a top finish.
"We're definitely ready to grab our share of glory," says Lynch. "We got bumped out of a top five finish at the season opener in Phoenix and we don't plan to let that happen again. Once was enough for us."
Running his first full season in this year's AutoZone Elite Division Southwest Series, Lynch his by no means a newcomer to racing. "I basically took the last couple of years off to complete my education," explains Lynch, who recently graduated from Arizona State with a BS in Business Management. "Now I'm ready to concentrate full time on racing. This year our goal is to earn Rookie of the Year honors and I think with the ability of Junior Joiner, our crew chief, and the entire Lynch Mob crew, we will be able to do just that."
Extremely talented behind the wheel, Lynch is well versed in what it takes to win. Serving notice on the competition, he qualified sixth in Round 1 and ran fourth for most of the race until he got spun out from behind.
"We tested at Madera last week," he says, "and, this is definitely going to be a tough round. Qualifying is going to be really important. It is a very fast, tight 1/3-mile track and there is definitely no room for error. Doing well is going to require extreme patience and total concentration. One mistake and you're pretty much done for the evening."
An extremely determined young man, Lynch, whose brother Scott is the reigning NASCAR Grand National Division, West Series Champion, is eager to follow in his brother's footsteps. "We are alike in a number of ways," he says. "We both share a passion for racing and we both pretty much have the same mind set when it comes to winning."
With only one round of the 14-race series completed, Lynch is already ranked third in the Rookie standings. "We've got a great schedule and enough races to easily move into first place," sums up Lynch. "Madera Speedway will be a great place start our climb to the top."
Qualifying for the 125 Lap/41.666 mile race gets underway on Saturday at 2:30PM and racers will take the Green Flag on Saturday at 6PM.![]()
