BAKERSFIELD, California -- A dry, hot day was the scene for the MRG Motorsports/Honda Cars of Corona team Wednesday as they successfully tested with driver David Gilliland in Bakersfield, California.
“The test went better than expected,” stated Gilliland. “The team really has the cars dialed in and we were very pleased with both the way the cars handled and with the times.”
Gilliland will be pulling double-duty, next week at Mesa Marin Raceway, competing in both the Lucas Oil 150 NASCAR Grand National Division, West Series on Saturday night and the Star Nursery 150 NASCAR AutoZone Elite Division, Southwest Series on the following Sunday afternoon.
"When we come back to this track both of the cars will be ready to roll off the trailer [and be race ready]," Gilliland said. "We had several calls during our test from the owner, Mark Golembeski. It's awesome to have someone that is so supportive and so interested in how we as a team are doing. I am so honored to have this level of quality with a team."
Gilliland, who suffered a flat tire in the season opener, gained ground last week at Madera (race 2 in the SWT circuit) when he not only took the hard charger award, moving from mid pack to finishing 2nd, but also made up 18 positions in the points chase. Gilliland now sits solidly in the top-ten in the standings with an eye on the championship.
Watch for another fine performance from this rising star when he hits the “Streets of Bakersfield” in less than two weeks.![]()
