DAYTONA BEACH, Florida -- Thirty-three drivers are pre-entered for the NASCAR AutoZone Elite Division, Southwest Series COORS Light "125" this Saturday, April 3 at Cajon Speedway in El Cajon, Calif. M.K. Kanke of Frazier Park, Calif. is a series and fan favorite at the 3/8-mile paved. Kanke has scored three AutoZone Southwest Series wins on the tricky layout along with six more top five finishes.
This weekends event will be the 1300th race staged at the area landmark since the track first opened on July 15, 1961. The AutoZone Southwest Series has competed at Cajon Speedway every year since the series was incepted in 1986, and the race this weekend marks the 23rd appearance for the West coast's premier Late Model Touring series.
Roman Calczynski won the first AutoZone Southwest Series event at Cajon
Speedway on July 4, 1988. Calczynski led the final 23 laps en route to a
3-car length victory over Mike Chase. Don Wilson, Roger Avants, and Don
Monaco rounded out the top five finishers. Ron Esau was the fast qualifier
with a quick lap of 16.024 seconds/84.249 mph. The race was completed in
just 36 minutes and 32 seconds at an average speed of 61.588 mph.![]()
