BAKERSFIELD, California -- Burney Lamar is looking to change his luck this Saturday at the 3/8ths mile Cajon Speedway in the NASCAR AutoZone Elite Division Southwest Series "Coors Light 125". Last Sunday afternoon at Mesa Marin Speedway, the W. Sacramento driver started 9th on the grid and was in 2nd place on lap 26, when a piston in the motor went awry, and relegated the youngster to a 29th place finish.
According to Lamar, "We had an awesome car too. The crew had everything together both during practice and qualifying, but I don't know, just one of those unfortunate things that happen".
As for the upcoming race at Cajon, Burney said, "We've done good there in the past and I feel my crew chief, Mark Lundgren, will have a good set-up for that track". In past races at Cajon, Lamar has had one pole and two top ten finishes. In taking his Groeniger/HPS/Tri-C/Victory Circle Chevrolet to the southern California speedway, he hopes to turn things around. "I like that track and I hope we can pick up from where we left off at Madera".
Since joining the HPS/Victory Circle Chassis racing team during the winter,
Lamar's 2004 season hasn't been all bad. He's had one pole, been second fastest qualifier
twice, one top five, and two top ten finishes. But Sundays finish dropped him from third to
eighth in the Series point standings.![]()
