JEFF SEIFERT GOES WIRE-TO-WIRE TO WIN CAJON

EL CAJON, California Jeff Seifert of Jamul, Calif. led wire-to-wire Saturday night at Cajon Speedway to claim his first career NASCAR AutoZone Elite Division, Southwest Series victory. Seifert started on the pole after Bud Pole winner Burney Lamar of W. Sacramento, Calif. drew a six invert to start the race. Seifert held off a determined challenge from Joe Herold of nearby Poway, Calif. who finished second to record his career best finish in three seasons on the Southwest Series. David Gilliland, Craig Raudman, and Danny Burson rounded out the top five finishers in the COORS Light "125" which marked the 1300th racing event held at Cajon Speedway since it opened in 1961.

The race took 54 minutes and 52 seconds to complete at an average speed of 51.260 mph. The action was slowed five times for 45 laps of caution. Seifert led all 125 laps and claimed the victory by .095 seconds over Herold. Rip Michels was the Autometer Rookie-of-the-Race with his 11th place finish. Ben Walker claimed the $750 PowerAde Power Move-of-the-Race for improving the most positions in the event (21st to 9th), and David Gilliland won the $350 Featherlite Award for improving the most positions from the previous race. Lamar claimed his second $350 Bud Pole Award of the season with a quick lap of 16.138 seconds/83.653 mph around the tricky 3/8-mile paved oval.
