FONTANA, California -- NASCAR Grand National West Division points leader Mike David is counting on a new sponsor to turn the tide for him at Fontana's California Speedway this weekend.
The 37-year-old Modesto driver will be sporting the logos of the Bennett Lane Winery on his No. 2 Ford in Saturday's King Taco 200. Bennett Lane Winery is the other passion of team owner Randy Lynch, who is also sponsoring Derrike Cope's No. 50 Dodge in the NASCAR Nextel Cup Auto Club 500 on Sunday.
David said he is eager to return Fontana as a Lynch Racing teammate of Cope's. The 2002 West Series Rookie of the Year has run well on the 2-mile super speedway, but experienced problems that kept him out of the Top 10 with the checkered flag waved.
"This is a track that has given us fits before," David said. "I'm excited to go back. We know we have a capable team."
David also won the Spec Truck Series for Lynch in the Ultra Wheel Spec Truck Series in 2000. David is looking for his first win in the NASCAR West Touring Series. He has two Top 5 finishes this year.
"It's a great start for us," David said. "We'll be a whole lot more excited in about three months if we still have this position."
Lynch is also eager to see David return to Victory Lane. He's excited about having two cars in action at California Speedway this weekend as he celebrates the 20-year anniversary of his marketing firm, the RW Lynch Company.
"I love it when we're winning," Lynch said. "We're overdue for a win. This is going to be a big weekend for us."
