STOCKTON, California -- Burney Lamar drove to a third place finish in the NASCAR AutoZone Elite Division Southwest Series "Budweiser 125" at Stockton 99 (CA) Speedway Saturday night, and moved from tenth to sixth in the Series 2004 point standings.
Qualifying fourth in a field of thirty cars, the 23 year old West Sacramento, CA. resident started inside the second row and never ran worse than seventh during the 125 lap event.
While buckling into his race car, Lamar said, "I told myself I was going to drive a conservative race tonight, and that's just what I tried to do. There were a couple of times I had a chance to gain some spots, but I held back some and it paid off in the long run. And what I'm really happy about is, I brought the car back in one piece. There's not a scratch on it."
"We had a lot of people here from my primary sponsor, Groeniger, and the third place finish didn't hurt a thing. We really needed this finish for the team. We've been putting in a lot of hours lately, and maybe this will help turn things around."
So far this year, Lamar has put the Groeniger/ Tri-C/ HPS Mechanical/ Victory
Circle Chassis Chevrolet in the top five twice, in the top ten three times, and has won two
Bud poles in the Series first five races. The next event for the touring Series will be at the
half mile Irwindale (CA) Speedway on May 29.![]()
