BAKERSFIELD, California -- Rookie David Mayhew from Atascadero, Calif. took his first NASCAR Late Model victory this past Saturday night at Mesa Marin Raceway. The victory couldn’t have come at a better time, as it puts Mayhew back on top of the point standings.
"We’ve been working really hard lately and it finally paid off for us," Mayhew said. "It’s nice to get that first win under our belts and re-gain the points lead."
Mayhew started the race fifth and took the lead on lap 19 of the 50 lap main event. He remained in the lead easily through the next 28 laps when a red flag fell, that set up the green- white- checkered dash to the end. Mayhew took the pressure with ease and crossed the line uncontested.
"Coming into this year we didn’t know much about stock cars and I think that’s what makes this win even better," Mayhew said. " We have had some great help learning, and getting up to speed; I just can’t thank those that have helped us enough."
The next race for David and the team will be the upcoming "Thursday Night Thunder" on May 27.
