ALL AMERICAN SPEEDWAY RESULTS FOR MAY 22ND

Scott Woessner of Roseville won his third 35-lap Modified main event of the season, Saturday, at the fast quarter-mile paved All American Speedway oval in Roseville. Woessner defeated one of the strongest fields the class had seen all year.

John Mamula of Citrus Heights was the early leader of the race. Les Friend of Galt spun on lap four, however, bunching the field back up. On the restart, an intense battle for second was sparked, with Willie Horn Jr. of Marysville and Woessner colliding in turn two. Jim Miller of Orangvale was also involved, sending him back to eighth.

The race stayed green with Woessner still in second. On lap nine, he reeled in Mamula to take the lead. Andy Field of Rocklin hit the wall in turn two to the slow the field on lap 11.

Miller found his way up to fourth by lap 24 when Horn hit the front-straight wall. On the restart, amid intense battling, Miller ended up in second place and he stayed in pursuit of Woessner to the checkers.

The top-five were Woessner, Miller, Stockton 99 Speedway visitor Jason Philpot of Elk Grove, Derrick Doering of Orangevale, and Mamula. Friend won his heat and the dash while Earl Boller of Rio Linda won the other heat.

For the second time in the last two races, Phil Wilkins of Citrus Heights was the class of the Street Stock field, winning their 35 lap main event by a large margin.

Lap traffic kept things interesting behind Wilkins in the caution-free race. Dan Patton of Citrus Heights, Richard Poppert Jr. of Sacramento, and Richard Lavallee of Dixon battled closely in the traffic.

The top-five were: Wilkins, Patton, Poppert, Lavallee, and Doug Wade of Sacramento. Travis Lewis of Newcastle won his heat and the dash with Lavallee winning the other heat.

Roy Smith of Roseville won the Bomber main event, after a great battle with Mario Rios-Davis of Sacramento.

Rios-Davis led the first 15 laps before Smith caught up to him. For the next 10 laps, they battled closely repeatedly making contact, with Smith working on Rios-Davis from the outside.

After a brief caution on lap 25, Smith ran away with the race. A big accident followed on lap 27 when Rick Anable of Rocklin and Brian Eklund of Antelope got tangled in turn four, sending Eklund spinning.

Eklund was then hit by Russ Houck of Sacramento and Rob Dick of Sacramento. Then Denise Reinhardt of Sacramento hit Houck, and Darrell Fitzgerald of Citrus Heights ended up in the wall in the process. Reinhardt and Fitzgerald continued.

The top-five were: Smith, John Cummings, Rios-Davis, Jim McCully, and Harry Lambert. Jami Kupper of Elverta, Chet Stokes of Antelope, and McCully won heats, with Lambert winning the dash.

Chris Marks of Auburn passed Earl Lee of Elverta on lap 10 of the Mini Stock main event for the lead and the win.

Jason Romero of Cameron Park and Jim Badekar of Citrus Heights tangled on lap nine in turn two, causing Badekar to fall to eighth place and Romero to fall to 12th. The incident shrunk Lee's lead, allowing Marks to pass him on the restart.

On lap 24, Matt Beardslee of Antelope spun on the back straightaway and hit the wall head-on. Badekar then plowed into him, destroying Beardslee's car.

The yellow-checkers flew to Marks. He was followed by Brian Macomber of Roseville, John Tipton of Sacramento, Lee, and Bobby Nowack of Sacramento. Lee and Macomber won the heats and Romero won the dash.

Brett "Rocko" Hulsey beat Shawn Latiker to the line by inches in an impessive race for the Western Auto Racing steel-bodied Hardtops.

John McClune of Sacramento lead the field to the green flag, but he spun into turn one, and Chuck Prather of Lincoln, who started fourth, rocketed to the lead. Then on lap three the sixth place starting Latiker passed Prather down the back straightaway.

A late caution for a spinning Bruce MacFarland of Wilton on lap 18 forced a two lap sprint between Hulsey and Latiker. Hulsey jumped the outside and the two battled door-to-door to the finish with Hulsey winning by a few feet.

Hulsey was followed in by Latiker, Prather, Dave March of Roseville, and MacFarland.

Next week its round eight for the regular four-division line-up of Mini Stocks, Steet Stocks, Modifieds, and Bombers. They will be joined by the popular MMRA Jr. Star Mini-Cups, who will be competing in their second race at All American Speedway in 2004 for national points.
