BAKERSFIELD, California -- Burney Lamar, coming off of a third place finish at Stockton 99 (CA) Speedway three weeks ago, and a four position jump in the point standings, is ready for this weekends NASCAR AutoZone Elite Division Southwest Series go-round at Irwindale (CA) Speedway. Going into Saturday nights "AutoZone 150" Burney is sixth in the Series point standings after five races.
Making his ninth appearance on the half-mile oval, the W. Sacramento driver has had his ups and downs from a DNF due to an accident, to a led-all-the-way win in August of 2002. In his last race at Irwindale, the NASCAR Toyota All Star Showdown, he started eighth in his qualifying race and finished second. In the 100 lap feature event, Burney started third but had suspension problems following the 75 lap inversion, and finished sixth.
"My crew chief, Mark Lundgren, as well as the rest of my crew, have a lot of experience in setting up a car for Irwindale, so I feel pretty comfortable for Saturday night", said the Series 2001 rookie of the year. "Besides that, it'd be great to join M K Kanke as a multiple time winner."
So far in 2004, driving the #1 Groeniger/HPS Mechanical/Tri-C/ Victory Circle
Chassis Monte Carlo, the 23 year old Lamar has two top-fives, three top-tens, and two Bud
