NEWPORT BEACH, California -- Scott Calvin will drive the General Pacific Partners #01 car in Saturday night's NASCAR Autozone Elite Division, Southwest Series race at Irwindale Speedway. The car will promote www.AMillionThanks.org ,a national effort that has brought over 450,000 personal letters to U.S. troops all over the world, particularly Iraq. This effort was initiated by Shauna Fleming, a high school student in Orange County who committed to getting 1 million letters to the men and women of the U.S. Armed Forces during National Military Appreciation month. O'Connell-Calvin Motorsports (www.TeamOCM.com) and their sponsors dedicated space on both of their Southwest Tour cars and both of their Irwindale Superlate Models ( the 58 and 59 respectively). Team owner, Kevin O'Connell commented, " Scott told me about Shauna's campaign at dinner one night after a late test session at Irwindale and after a brief discussion with the team, sponsors and Irwindale Speedway and their staff, we decided it would be a unique way to show our gratitude by utilizing our racing assets in a way that would give back to the men and women that maintain our American way of life!"
Shauna's campaign has garnered support from Irwindale Speedway, Matt Kenseth and Dewalt Racing and California Speedway, John Michael Montgomery, and the Department of Defense to name a few. She will be appearing at the opening ceremonies with John Michael Montgomery at the Coca Cola 600 over the Memorial Day weekend to personally deliver some of the letters received from Americans here at home and as far away as Europe as she continues her climb to 1 million letters. Your involvement is welcomed and interested parties should contact the Fleming's at SFleming@AMillionThanks.org.![]()
