ROOKIE MAYHEW MAKES IT TWO IN A ROW

BAKERSFIELD, California -- Rookie David Mayhew from Atascadero, Calif., took his second NASCAR Late Model victory in a row this past Thursday night at Mesa Marin Raceway. The "Thursday Night Thunder" 75-lap main event win also helped him stretch his point lead to 24 points.

"The car was great again this week," stated Mayhew. "We have been hard at work on the setup of this car and it shows on the track. I can’t thank all our help enough."

The 22-year-old rookie started the race in the sixth spot after the invert following the heat races. Mayhew then quickly made the dash towards the front of the field and made his pass for the lead on lap nine. From there he held on to a steady lead until a group of cautions slowed the pace. On each re-start he and Bakersfield’s Brian Richardson would pull away from the competition, with Mayhew keeping a two-car advantage. It got close at the end as a couple of lap cars were racing side by side, but nothing could stop the rookie from his second-straight win.

"We have been at the track testing this past week and it showed," Mayhew said. " To beat last years track champion in a head to head battle shows just how far this team has come in our first year. We just need to keep on working hard and keep focused on the championship."

Mayhew is hoping to be a contender in the NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series’ Sunbelt Region points championship. With this win the team is hoping to move up in the standings from their current eighth-place status. He is also well ahead of the next Rookie of the Year contender and leading the championship as Mesa Marin. Winning races is nothing new for Mayhew even though he is a rookie in the stock car division. He is a four-time national karting champion, and also has wins in many different open wheel series.

The next race for the DMI team will be the upcoming twin 40-lap mains on Saturday, June 12.
