
WILTON, California -- Davey Hamilton's SRL Wild West Late Model Shootout returns to Mesa Marin Raceway in Bakersfield, California, for race number five of eleven on the 2004 schedule. The Coors Light "100" presented by Arrival Communications takes place this coming Saturday, June 5th, 2004. This will be the Wild West Shootout's second trip to the famous 1/2 mile high-banked racing facility.
When Davey Hamilton's SRL Wild West Shootout visited Mesa Marin Raceway on April 17th, local favorite Craig Raudman led the final 56 laps en route to his first career SRL Wild West Shootout victory. Current 2004 point leader Rick Ruzbarsky finished second, while Ken Boyd finished third.
Ruzbarsky leads 2002 Champion Jeff Anthony by 5 points heading into this weekends Coors Light "100". Ryan Foster, the 2003 SRL rookie of the year sits third. Steve Belletto who won the season opener at Altamont Motorsports Park holds on to fourth position. With two top three finishes in the last two races, Ken Boyd has jumped up to fifth in the 2004 point standings.
Salida's Jeff Belletto sits sixth, after a top ten finish at Altamont last month. Victory Circle Chassis and Parts Rookie of the year contender Mark Smith currently sits seventh, with Stockton 99 race winner Joey Zampa of Napa, California eighth. Tracy Bolin of Valley Springs, California sits ninth, as 2003 Champion Ron Strmiska Jr. rounds out the top ten.
Tracy's Mark Smith sits on top of the 2004 Victory Circle Chassis and Parts Rookie of the year point standings. Jim Courage Jr. is second, followed by Bakersfield's own Mike Mason. Just one point separates Courage and Mason. In addition to be crowned Rookie of the year at the season ending awards banquet, the 2004 SRL Rookie of the year will be the recipient of a brand new 2004 Victory Circle Chassis. Currently situated in a 38,000 square foot facility in Bakersfield, CA, Victory Circle Chassis and Parts, Inc. is the leader in west coast racecar chassis design and fabrication.
Anderson's Ryan Foster leads the Apex Financial Group Qualifying Points. Foster has a five point lead over Rick Ruzbarsky, as Jeff Belletto trails Ruzbarsky by one point. The drivers in the series will be competing for the Apex Financial Group qualifying championship award of $5,000.00. The money will be divided between the top three in qualifying points. Apex Financial Group is based in Stockton, California and specializing in home loans and the refinancing of property.
Chad Pais leads Aaron Days, Jeremy Hopkins Jr., Justin Offenbach, and Mike Mason in the SRL Late Model Qualifying Race Points.
An on-track autograph session is schedule for 6:30 PM. All drivers and their cars will be present on the front stretch of Mesa Marin Raceway. This gives an opportunity for all of the fans to come and meet their favorite SRL drivers, take pictures, and ask questions about the race cars.
