In his own words, "It took a while" but Saturday, May 29th was Mic Moulton's night at Ukiah Speedway, as he dominated the 4th point race of the North-State Challenge Series, leading all 60 laps to claim the $1500 victory. It was the first touring series win for the up and coming young driver. Starting from outside the front row, by virtue of an 8 car inversion, Moulton was able to get by pole-sitter Rod Scevers on the backstretch on the first lap and hold on for the flag to flag win. In this competitive series though, no win is easy. Bill Ward challenged for the lead on multiple restarts. "Ward was faster than us on restarts and he kept trying to get under me, but with our horsepower, we managed to hold him off. He raced me real hard!", Mic said later. After running well, but having more than his share of bad luck and mechanical woes in the 2003 season, the win was especially sweet. "I always knew we could win but it's been a long time coming! It's the result of a lot of hard work by a lot of guys." He was quick to credit the crew who helped him at Ukiah, including Crew Chief Scott Teasley, Racey Casey Dungan, Steve Graham, J.D. Frey, Marty Walsh, Donald Duck Snowton, and Brad Fite.

Moulton wheeled his Scott Teasley built Port City '03 Monte Carlo to victory lane, powered by a 406ci Chevy, supplied by Steve Graham of SGR and Drive Train Specialties in Redway. Mic is very thankful for the support of his sponsors Blue Lake Casino, Lundblade Development Company, Northwood Chevrolet, DTS, Bettendorf Trucking, Sign Vision, Fastenal, Left Coast Motorsports Marketing Solutions, Courtesy Used Cars, and Myrtletown Body Shop.

After finishing 8th at Redwood Acres, 8th in Roseburg, and 6th at Shasta Raceway Park, Moulton came into Ukiah a solid 3rd in points, 49 markers behind leader Bill Binns. With his 11th place finish in the 5th point race on Sunday, Mic moved into a 3-way tie for 2nd in the season standings with 399 points. Howard Ford and C.J.Bawden also have 399 while Binns still leads with 433. The next stop in the series will be a return visit to the Douglas County Fairgrounds in Roseburg, Oregon on June 12th. Look for the Moulton Racing team to carry a lot of momentum into Roseburg!####
