The Youth Hornets made their debut on Saturday evening as the clouds stayed away, temperatures were better and the racers put on a great show once again. Putting 14, 16 and 17 year olds into a Hornet car, remember, most had never driven a car before, telling them that they get to drive this car on a racetrack with a lot of people watching. Go ahead and drive it as fast as you can to try and win a race and keep away from that very solid white wall! All without knowing what it takes to drive the thing in the first place! On the outside it seems like insanity, but so does any type of racing to some people. During practice the stage was set when 14 year old Eric Linterman drove Don Meza's #2 1/2 (last years car, this years backup) into the turn 4 wall hard enough where Don had to take it home and get the new #2 and put Nicole Linterman in it, Eric would have to drive Dad Jeff's #13. The huge grin on the kid's face when they got out of their race cars told the story- they were having fun and their future's just got more expensive with racing having to be included. Dustin Haviland, a 16 year old from Lynnwood had raced go-carts before, made the trip to the Super Oval to win the Trophy dash and race to second in the main. Here's the results of the Youth Hornets from their first night of competition:
Heat 1-
1 Dwight Waterbury- 17 years old, Wenatchee High School,
2 Adam Bates- 15 yrs, Wen H.S.,
3 Dustin Haviland- 16 yrs, Meadowdale H.S. in Lynnwood,

From the response in the stands and the number of fans asking me where they can get rules for the class, the Youth Hornets should have no trouble becoming a very popular class for everyone involved. A big thanks goes out to the families and friends of the racers who put a lot of time and money into the cars the kids raced- great job all of you!
The Pepsi-Cola Mini Super Stocks still have 5 cars in close competition for the lead by the middle of the main! The full inverts are great for the racing action as the faster drivers have to make their way through the field then battle hard to get to the front, only to have a harder time getting around the leaders! Last years champion Kevin Dietrich is still getting the bugs out the new race car, but is leading the points chase already with brother Darin 2nd in points after winning Saturday nights heat and main. Larry Sweeney's #3 is running well and his consistency has him 3rd in points, the same with Larry Jobe in 4th, and Jan Gall is 5th. Daniel Pirestani brought his Les Schwab Mini Sportsman up and changed tires and ran well considering how down on power the #02 was compared to the others. The Heat and Main results are:
Heat 1:
1 Larry Sweeney- Chelan,
2 Mike Pease- Gold Bar,
3 Jan Gall- Wenatchee,
4 Daniel Pirestani- EW
Heat 2
1 Darin Dietrich- Chelan,
2 Bill Russell- EW,
3 Kevin Dietrich- Chelan,
4 Larry Jobe- Wen,
5 Jeff Tarrant- Wen
Main:
1 Darin Dietrich,
2 Sweeney,
3 Schall,
4 Kevin Dietrich,
5 Pease,
6 Gall,
7 Pirestani,
8 Jobe,
9 Tarrant,
10 Russell
Josh Jones got off to a great start Saturday evening with his car really hooking up in practice, then he told me they had a push and were chasing it. After winning the trophy dash for the Big 10 Super Late Models the car was better and these guys were ready for a 100 lapper after being cheated out of their main event 2 weeks ago because of rain. Jones went straight to the lead early with BJ Tidrick in tow. The two young drivers set the pace and held the pack at bay for over half of the race, then Chad Holaday appeared on the scene and worked his way past them for the lead and kept it to the end in a quick and clean main event. The final results were:
1 Chad Holaday- Wen,
2 Josh Jones- Wen,
3 BJ Tidrick- Yakima,
4 Ben Reid- Orando,
5 Andy Stibal- Orando,
6 Marty Wason- Chelan,
7 Mark Sunberg- Seattle,
8 Loren Payne- Renton,
9 Ed Thomsen- Richland,
10 Mike Dunseith- Pentictin B.C.
Congrats to Shane Mitchell and Garret Evans on their dominance at Yakima! You may have heard about an incident involving John Wagner after the races in the pits, he is doing fine and will not require surgery, his family is with him and he is recovering on his own. All of us wish him and his family the best and a quick return to the track. The Performance Auto Sound Spectator Drags were held again Saturday evening with Robert Thimble bringing up a 4 wheel drive, twin turbo bright red Mitsubishi 300 and had no trouble winning the event against the other competitors: Chuck Wagner got 2nd, Chris Kline was 3rd, also racing were- Dawson Caldwell, Jeff Ovic, John Wagner Jr, and Blind Mellon.
