RINGERS GLOVES WEEKEND WRAP-UP

INDIANAPOLIS, Indiana -- Penske Racing South and Ringers Gloves, The Official Glove of Penske Racing, took to the “Monster Mile” of Dover International Speedway over the weekend in the NASCAR Nextel Cup Series’ MBNA 400 “A Salute to Heroes.”

All drivers had strong qualifying efforts with Ryan Newman starting second; Rusty Wallace, fourth and Brendan Gaughan, fifth, but didn’t have finishes that matched their qualifying efforts.

Wallace finished the highest of the three in 13th place; Newman posted 24th and Gaughan, 27th.

Penske Racing South heads to the 2.5-mile triangular-shaped track this weekend at Pocono Raceway for the Pocono 500.

Newman was the last Nextel Cup driver to win at the track, with the win coming in the July 27, 2003, Pennsylvania 500 race.

Wallace holds the NASCAR Nextel Cup race record set on July 21, 1996 with a 144.892.

Other action over the weekend included the National Tour and the Late Model Series of the American Speed Association at Mansfield Motorsports Speedway in Mansfield, Ohio on Saturday night.

Ohio native Robbie Pyle captured the Jani-King pole for the BFGoodrich Tires 250 and took the checkers to Winner’s Circle over Ringers driver, Kevin Cywinski, by 0.631 seconds.

Pyle was the first ASA driver this season to receive the Jani-King Clean Sweep award for taking the pole and winning the race.

Other Ringers notables at the checkered flag were VP Race Fuels “Hard Charger”, Reed Sorenson, third; Mike Garvey, fourth; Todd Kluever, 15th; Toby Porter, 20th; Peter Cozzolino, 22nd; Rich Loch, 23rd; SS Racing drivers Butch Miller and Kris Krisiloff 27th and 30th, respectively.

ASA Late Model driver, Ryan Tedesco scored his second win in a row at Mansfield Motorsports Speedway on Saturday.

The week before, Tedesco took his first ASA Late Model Series career win at the Lake Erie Speedway in Erie, Pa.

Both the ASA National Tour and Late Model Series venture to Michigan this weekend for the Michigan 300 presented by Meijer and Tony’s Pizza and the Berlin 100 at Berlin Raceway in Marne, Mich.
