After a long delay for rain, Ken Olson of Naches, Washington lead a strong field of late model stockcars to the green flag at Yakima Speedway Saturday night. Olson Started on the pole due to a four-car invert with fast time, Mike Longton starting fourth. Olson knew that he needed to drive a perfect race to hold off the hard charging pack behind him. The veteran driver drove the race of a life time as he held a great line and was able to score his first late model main event win. The exciting event had the top four cars of Olson, Ken Kaltschmidt, Mike Longton and Troy Tramell, nose to tail the entire event. Longton was able to get under Kaltschmidt late in the going but was unable to complete a pass on the steady running Olson. Ron Bemis of Yakima scored an impressive fifth place finish with an extremely strong run. Erick Hargraves, Mike Zamora, Vince Conwell, Christopher Kalsch and Ed Thomsen rounded out the top ten.
The Street stock division was finally able to complete their first main event race of the year. The previous events have been called because of rain. Young Rich Peters of Yakima, drove his beautiful car to an exciting win over veterans Bob Van Amburg and Jack Anderson. The first four cars swapped paint and positions throughout the event. The crowd was on their feet watching the best street stock racers in the Northwest battle for position lap after lap. Pole sitter Richard Cagle and Andy Beaman made up the top five.
A huge field of 20 Hobby cars was led to the green by Ralph Smith and Bryan Moser. Bobby A. Trujillo, winner of two main events this year, started in the fourth position. Trujillo reported oil pressure problems after the heat race, and was not confident in his engine for the main event. The 2000 champion was able to hold off a hard charging 2003 champion, Buck Noel Jr. Ralph Smith drove a good race to finish third with 2002 champ, Don Klang in the fourth position and Thomas Benscoter recovering from an early race mishap to a fine fifth place.
