RINGERS GLOVES WEEKEND WRAP-UP

Indianapolis – (June 14, 2004) Plenty of racing action from ASA to NASCAR to NHRA and more took place over the weekend as the official summer months have finally arrived.

After one week off, the straight-liners of the National Hot Rod Association (NHRA) took to the National Trail Raceway in Hebron, Ohio, just outside of Columbus, over the weekend.

Ringers drivers Greg Anderson, Brandon Bernstein and Cruz Pedregon all sat atop the Low Qualifier ladder on Saturday.

Unfortunately on Sunday, two of the three failed to make it past the first round.

In Top Fuel, Bernstein smoked the tires early and tried to keep with the rail, but fell to Mitch King.

Pedregon earned his first Low Qualifier of the year in Funny Car on Saturday, but also smoked the tires and let out around 200 feet.

But Greg Anderson continued his hot streak in Pro Stock.

Anderson took on 21-year-old fellow Ringers racer, Dave Connolly.

Connolly got Anderson at the Tree, but Connolly didn’t have enough for Anderson, as he went onto win his eighth win of the year (24th of career).

Anderson dedicated this win to his wife Kim, as she was celebrating her 34th birthday on Sunday.

Even though Bernstein didn’t advance past first round, Ringers was represented in the finals by Tony Schumacher.

Schumacher received lane choice over Darrell Russell, as Russell’s lane scoring board had a malfunction in semi-finals against Ringers racer, Larry Dixon.

Schumacher fell to Russell, but re-claimed the points lead over Bernstein. Schumacher heads to Englishtown this weekend with a 39-point lead in Top Fuel.

The American Speed Association National Tour and Late Model Series raced at Berlin Raceway in Marne, Mich., on Saturday.

ASA Veteran Mike Eddy, in only his second start of the season, grabbed the win in the Meijer 300.

Ringers drivers, Robbie Pyle, Kevin Cywinski, Butch Miller and Mike Garvey rounded out the top five.

Other Ringers notables in the field were Toby Porter, ninth; Reed Sorenson, 16th; Todd Kluever, 21st; Peter Cozzolino, 22nd; SS Racing’s Kyle Krisiloff, 24th and Rich Loch, 25th.

The ASA National Tour returns to action on July 4th at Pikes Peak International Raceway in Fountain, Colo.

In ASA Late Model Series action, NASCAR Busch Series star and former ASA Rookie of the Year, David Stremme’s, younger brother Bobby picked up his first ASA Late Model Series win on Saturday in the Berlin 100.

The Late Model Series will hit the Grundy County Speedway in Morris, Ill., this Saturday for the Terry’s Automotive Group Twin 100s.

In the NASCAR Nextel Cup Series, the drivers of Penske Racing South didn’t fair to well in the Pocono’s on Sunday.

Ryan Newman and Rusty Wallace were both involved in separate accidents and both ended up finishing 30th and 32nd place finishes, respectively.

Brendan Gaughan suffered engine problems and posted 39th.

After starting third, Joe Nemechek (NEMCO Motorsports #01), finished on the lead lap in the Pocono 500 and finished 18th.

The NASCAR Nextel Cup Series heads to Michigan International Speedway this Sunday for the DHL 400.

In Craftsman Truck Series news, Ringers team Orleans Racing and Steve Park finished 10th in the O’Reilly 400k this past weekend at Texas Motor Speedway.
