TUCSON, Arizona -- 2003 Southwest Series Rookie of the Year, JR Patton, who recently relocated to Mooresville, NC, decided to try his luck with the Autozone Southeast Series at Nashville Superspeedway and Kentucky Superspeedway. The team took the 34 hour trip from Tucson, AZ to their first stop at Nashville Superspeedway.
“We had a few problems in practice with the car and only got about 4 laps,” said Patton. After qualifying 24th, the team knew that they only had one way to go and that was forward. This is exactly what they did. Patton had a few close calls on the track, barely sneeking by several wrecks. We the race came to a close everyone saw the number 97 10th on the scoreboard. Patton received the Powerade Hard Charger Award for advancing the most spots (14).
With one restrictor plate race under their belts, the team made their way to Mooresville where they prepped their car for the next race at Kentucky Superspeedway. This time around the team was better prepared knowing what to expect for the Superspeedway setups. Patton qualified the car in the 14th position and advance his way up to the 10th position for the second week in a row.
“I would like to thank all of my crew who worked hard all week long to get the cars ready to race,” says Patton, “I think the races were great learning experiences both for me and the team.”
The next stop for JR Patton Racing will be at Pikes Peak International Raceway on July 30th or also a possibility of some Hooters Pro Cup Races. Visit www.jrpattonracing.com for updates.
