MONROE, Washington -- The NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series Super Stock Speedway Chevrolet Mid-Season Championship 75-Lap main on Evergreen Speedway’s Super 5/8-mile oval is another notch in John Zaretzke’s belt. An 8-car inverted start did not deter John from his mission.
John got to the front by lap 14 and held the lead for the remainder of the race. It was not as easy a win as last week with Shane Harding right behind for the second half. It was close enough that on the last lap and last turn there was contact as Zaretzke had to slow for a lapped car and Harding got into the back end of the Zaretzke Ford. Both cars got out of shape but survived to finish one two.
The 75-lap main started with a bang when Ken Kaltschmidt came into contact with Harding. The ensuing result was a hard front stretch hit to the inside wall by Kaltschmidt that had everyone holding their breath. After moving the cement barrier about 6-feet and a fire, Kaltschmidt emerged from the severely damaged car a bit dazed. A few laps later after the restart Joe Constance, in the Matt Murphy car, and Roger Habich got together sending both strong cars to the pits.
Zaretzke’s win pulls him even with Colorado’s Jerry Robertson in the win column. The two are neck and neck for the prestigious NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series Northwest Region Championship. Zaretzke will have a week off before he is able to continue chasing his goal of a regional championship. The Super Stocks return to the 3/8-mile oval on Saturday July 10.
The ‘Z’ Man followed up his win in the Super Stock division with a seventh in the NASCAR Auto Zone Elite Division Northwest Series Evergreen 125. The 125-lap main was won by Gary Lewis followed by Pete Harding and Jeff Jefferson.
