
The chase for the 2004 Championship is wide open as Davey Hamilton’s SRL Wild West Late Model Shootout makes their second and final visit to Stockton 99 Speedway this coming Saturday. In the series first six racers, six different winners have taken home a Sunoco Checkered Flag. With just five races remaining on the 2004 schedule there are five drivers within 23 points of current points leader Rick Ruzbarsky of Tracy. Ruzbarsky has finished in the top ten in every race this season, including a fourth place finish at Stockton 99 Speedway on March 28th.
Trailing Ruzbarsky is 2002 Series Champion Jeff Anthony. Anthony has recorded one win, and four top fives in six starts. Ruzbarsky leads Anthony by 15 points. (270-255) Jeff Anthony has no room to breathe as Steve Belletto patiently sits in third, one point behind Anthony. Belletto won the first race of the season at Altamont Motorsports Park. There is no room for error, as 2003 SRL Rookie of the Year Ryan Foster of Anderson sits fourth, and just two points behind Belletto.. Foster won at Mesa Marin Raceway on June 5th. After setting quick time two weeks ago at Madera Speedway, Ken Boyd hold’s onto fifth place just 23 points out of the top position. Boyd has three top five finishes, and is looking for his first win of 2004 Saturday night.
Fresh off of his first career SRL Wild West Shootout Victory two weeks ago at Madera Speedway, Jeff Belletto has plenty of momentum heading into Saturday’s race. Belletto currently sits in the sixth position overall. Napa’s Joey Zampa is going for the season sweep at Stockton 99 Speedway this coming Saturday. Joey won on the fast ¼ mile track on March 28th. Tracy’s Mark Smith is currently eight in the 2004 Championship Standings. Smith also leads the Victory Circle Chassis and Parts Rookie of the Year Point Standings. Smith finished ninth earlier in the year at Stockton 99 Speedway. Tracy Bolin of Valley Springs holds onto ninth position. Tracy’s best finish of 2004 is seventh, and that came at Altamont Motorsports Park. Fremont’s Troy Ermish rounds out the top 10. Ermish has two top ten finishes to his credit for the 2004 season.
Mark Smith continues to lead the Victory Circle Chassis and Parts Rookie of the Year points. Bakersfield’s Mike Mason is second, followed by Roseville’s Jim Courage Jr. In addition to be crowned Rookie of the year at the season ending awards banquet, the 2004 SRL Rookie of the year will be the recipient of a brand new 2004 Victory Circle Chassis. Currently situated in a 38,000 square foot facility in Bakersfield, CA, Victory Circle Chassis and Parts, Inc. is the leader in west coast racecar chassis design and fabrication.
Ryan Foster set fast time at Stockton 99 Speedway on March 28th and has qualified in the top five in four of the six events this season. Foster leads Jeff Belletto and Ken Boyd by five points in the Apex Financial Qualifying Points.(16-11) The drivers in the series will be competing for the Apex Financial Group qualifying championship award of $5,000.00. The money will be divided between the top three in qualifying points. Apex Financial Group is based in Stockton, California and specializing in home loans and the refinancing of property.
Chad Pais leads Aaron Days, Jeremy Hopkins Jr., Justin Offenbach, and Steve Yatsko in the SRL Late Model Qualifying Race Points.

Stockton 99 Speedway is located at 4105 North Wilson Way. Traveling south on Highway 99, take the Wilson Way exit. The track is two blocks up the road just past the first stop light. On Highway 99 north, take the Cherokee Road exit, loop over the freeway to Newton Road and turn right. Drive one mile and turn left at the Wilson Way stoplight.
