Troy Tramell from Yakima saw his season turn around with a convincing win Saturday night. Tramell has not had the season he and his crew expected during the 2004 campaign. The young racer picked a great night to win a main event at the mid – season championship races. After setting second fast time, Tramell started the 100-lap race in the eight position. A lap one wreck that caused the new car of Rick Thompson to retire for the night and damage to the Ed Thompsen racer, jumbled up the field and moved Tramell up front. Racing in front of his sponsor and a group of kids that were there to cheer him on, Tramell lead the rest of the way. The race stayed green until lap 89 when the field closed up behind him. At the drop of the green, Tramell lefty no doubt as to how fast his car was, as he pulled out to a 3 car length lead at the checkered. After setting another track record, Mike Longton had a great race with Erick Hargraves and Ron Bemis to move into the second spot. Bemis drove one of his best races of his career and spun late in the going while battling for second. Bemis recovered to finish fourth. Flat tires hurt the efforts of Angela Cope and Mike Zamora. Rookie Erick Hargraves proved his abilities again with a fine third place finish.
The Street Stock race was full of excitement up to the checkered flag. Jack Anderson won another main event that was extremely hard fought all the way. Coming off of turn four for the checkered flag, the second and third place cars of Richard Peters and Bob Van Amburg tangled and both cars hit the front stretch wall. Both cars suffered extensive damage but both drivers were unhurt. Rookie Jason Enfield, Jack Anderson’s stepson finished second.
The 40 lap Hobby main saw another large field of 22 cars take the green. The top ten cars battled the entire distance and the outcome was in doubt until the checkered flew. Contact between leader Don Klang and second running Buck Noel Jr. gave Noel the win over Klang.
Jessie Vincent was third Ralph Smith fourth and Larry McCauley rounding out the top five.
