Source: RacingWest
If it is not the most beautiful track NASCAR races on, Laguna Seca certainly comes close. Situated half-way between Monterey and Salinas the 2.238 mile road course has a forty year history of bringing race fans some of the most exciting racing action in the world. This weekend the stars of the NASCAR Winston West are stepping up to the challenges of the changing elevations, the Andretti Hairpin, and "The Corkscrew". A Champ Car was clocked at 178mph between turns one and two and then before the exit of turn two speeds slowed to less than 50 mph. The cars competing on the roadcourse rise 32 feet exiting turn 11 and then drop 59 feet before the beginning of the corkscrew and then another 50 feet before they complete turn 9. The field of drivers competing in this weekends Salinas 250 NASCAR Winston West event featured by Foods Co include a number of drivers that are not competing for the points, Charlie Solomon, Rick Sutherland, Garland Self, Bow Carpenter, Rod Bennett, Tony Hunt and the one that came the farthest to race, AJ Alsup from Moorseville, NC. Alsup was the winner of the 1999 LA Street Race, a SW Touring Series event. Qualifying for the event is scheduled for today (Saturday) at 4pm.
