WOESSNER TAKES HOME FIFTH WIN OF 2004 AT ALL AMERICAN

Scott Woessner took home his fifth Modified win of 2004, after he bent the rear end in practice, Saturday, at the fast quarter-mile paved oval All American Speedway in Roseville.

The race was the 14th round of the Thunder Valley Casino Championship Cup Series. Woessner’s damage was from when he hit the wall in a practice session.

Billy Bowerman of Rocklin took the lead from the outside pole, while Ryan Peter of Citrus Heights fell to fourth. Intense battling took place behind Peter. On lap 11 Peter bobbled off turn two.

Heading into turn three, he was spun by Andy Field of Rocklin to bring out a yellow.

Woessner took the lead from Bowerman on the restart. Peter and Field collided again on lap 15, ending their nights.

Jim Miller of Orangevale got loose off of turn two on lap 21, and hit Bowerman. Miller then slid across the back-straight and was hit by John Mamula of Citrus Heights. The impact sent Mamula flying through the air.

Surprisingly both cars resumed.

On the restart Jim McFall of Rio Linda challenged Woessner on the outside. For the next six laps, they raced side-by-side with Woessner fighting a loose condition. On lap 27, he took the lead for good.

The top-five were: Woessner, McFall, Les Friend of Galt, Gary Glenn of Orangevale, and Miller. Don Moss and Friend won the heats. Friend also won the dash.

“The car wasn’t great by any means,” Woessner said. “It got better over longer runs, because as the tires heated up it went from tight to loose.”

“You have to be two to three tenths a lap faster to pass on the outside. After two or three laps, you might as well back off and wait for another run.”

Brian Macomber of Roseville won his second straight main event in in 1-800-CLEANUP Mini Stock racing, once again fighting off Chris Marks of Auburn.

Ed Bruening of Elverta led the first eight laps before Jim Badekar of Citrus Heights snuck by in traffic.

Badekar held the lead cleanly until lap 14, when Jason Romero of Cameron Park came up to race him. Romero got under him on lap 16 in turn three, but coming off four he swung wide, hitting Badekar.

Romero then bounced off and hit the front-straight wall head-on. His night was done.

Badekar led for the next eight laps, until Ron Davis lost his right rear tire to bring out a yellow. Macomber passed Badekar easily on the restart.

A late yellow flew on lap 32, allowing Chris Marks of Auburn a shot at Macomber. But overheating problems prevented a strong run. The top-five were Macomber, Marks, Badekar, John Tipton of Sacramento, and Matt Beardslee of Antelope. Mike Willet of Applegate won his heat and the dash. Macomber won the other heat.

Jim McGinnis Jr. won the Expert Reality Bomber main event, leading flag-to-flag but not without challenges.

On lap 11, McGinnis was forced to go through the middle of two lap cars, while he was followed by Roy Smith of Roseville and Jim McCully of Roseville.

Smith and McGinnis tangled on the front-straight during lap 21, causing McCully to slip back in reaction.

Gary Eisenhower of Loomis hit the wall on lap 30, while Smith was working on the outside of McGinnis. Eisenhower slowed right in front of Smith, forcing him to fall back in the line.

At the finish, it was McGinnis followed by McCully, Smith, Chet Stokes of Antelope, and John Cummings of Rescue. Gordon Cooley Jr. of Marysville, Mike Renteria of Roseville, and Eisenhower won the heats. Eisenhower also won the dash.

Dick Meadows of Roseville cruised to win the Street Stock main event, leading the entire 35 lap distance.

Phil Wilkins of Citrus Heights came up to challenge Meadows on two occasions, but Meadows got away both times.

Meadows and Wilkins were followed by Wayne Crossland of Antelope, Dan Patton of Citrus Heights, and Richard Lavallee of Dixon. Doug Wade of Sacramento and Nancy Garton of Dixon won the heats with Spencer Emerson of Sacramento winning the dash.

Next week the regular four-division Thunder Valley Casino Championship Cup Series will be joined by the Western Auto Racing steel-bodied Hardtops. Also, if the top-qualifier from the Modifieds opts to start in the back and still wins, he will take home a $100 bonus.
